I think some of you folks have the wrong idea about why Anon wants to do this. They aren't out against the idea of social networking in general (quite the contrary, actually, they're a social group themselves), they're against the entity of facebook specifically, because of it's horribly underhanded security policies.

It's not facebook doing the selling, which is why they can avoid legal scrutiny, but the apps, and facebook does nothing to curb app developer from doing so. It's kind of a wicked triangle. Facebook allows app developers to easily steal your info, this keeps the app makers on using facebook, and the apps helps keep the users on facebook, which facebook profits from.

As for the website itself, facebook regularly adds 'new features' and in the meantime secretly changes and lowers your security settings without telling you. Hell, open your facebook right now. In your address bar, does it say 'http:'? That means you aren't using a secure connection. (By the way, click on Account > Account Settings > Security > and click the edit button next to Secure Browsing and check the box to enable it. It should now say 'https:')

Edit: Here's a good article outlining how they do it:

Edit 2: Also, it's possible to delete your facebook (not just deactivate it), but it's quite difficult. Here's how to do it:

  2. it's the fact they sell you're info..

  3. *your*. I hope they do it.

  4. Hell yeh i hope facebook fucking burns, seriously there working with the government people have been raided because of facebook.

  5. I have thankfully never had a Facebook....after having a myspace in 2005-2008 i realized how stupid and pointless these social networks are....
It just feels bad. I live my life in a free world with plenty of freedoms. They range from free thinking, free software, freedom of speech, ...simply freedom in all my decisions. Why would I want to be stuck in a walled garden like Facebook?
so as far as im concerned the world was and would be better off without this popularity contest disguised as a "social network"...please.

  6. I feel like productivity would increase tenfold if facebook was taken down.

  7. Does facebook sell your number?

I get more of those random calls than ever, about insurance, debt, and stuff that has no value in my life at the moment. It doesn't bother me because it only takes two presses of a button but still interesting.

  8. shit son your right.

  9. What ever as long as it's not gc lol

  10. I wouldn't mind if they deleted all the users personal info, that would be making a statement..

  11. They hate facebook because they don't have over 50 irl friends to add to it ):

    Mostly this.

  13. If the government and who ever they sell the info too have that much time on their hands,to spy on me or whatever they do,well I just feel bad for them cause they must be pretty damn bored and they aren't getting much out of me.

  14. Additionally, I hope you all realize facebook is not making a huge profit off of anything they do to produce income. Their overhead is HUGE, for once a year or two ago they actually went positive...

  15. Take that shit down.
