looks like my grow is off to a good start....well hopefully=) heres some pics of my first grow! tell me what you think..
The only thing I saw and didn't like was that MG soil lol. If you can spare a few bucks you should look into getting some fox farms. Also you should fill pots up with more soil, almost to the top. This will give the roots more vertical room to grow. I like your grow cab, did you build it yourself? Good luck on the grow bro, peace.
I've built about 5 cabinets just like that over the last several years. One of them is actually the same model. I prefer my intake to be in the bottom of the cabinet, but I use a HID and the air flow in my space has to be precise in order to keep things cool. Some questions: How do you remove the cords from between the wood? They look trapped, but the picture could be deceiving. What type of lighting do you plan to use? I see the lights installed at the top--do you have a way to move them up and down? Do you plan to start your plants in those containers? I would recommend going smaller, say 12-16 oz party cups that you can cut for a stress-free transplant. And I agree with the green man.. not a big fan of MG soil. I used that same potting mix recently and had decent results, but nothing like the usual FFOF.
i have three sprouts in the one pot for now..then ill repot them'.. the cords are fine..the back is really thin board... my lights are 2x24w t-5HO 6700k.... the one light right over pot is just a cfl until lil my guys pop out... yea i was wanting to move my pots up and down via a shevle maybe... my temp seems to be stayin around 81 =x i wonder if one more fan would help?
Do you have any kind of ventilation system? Another fan wouldn't hurt, that one you have looks kinda small. Its going to be hard to do a shelve thing where you move it up and down. Just stack pots upside down or get some bricks or something. Its easier to just set up lights so you can move them up and down though. Sorry to tell you but that fluro light way up there won't get much lumens to your plants below. Fluros and cfls need to be placed an inch to 2 inches from the tops to be most effective.
yea im def gonna try to get my plant way up there, how ever i do it...prob just end up doing some bricks or so like you said. the orginal plan was to move the light shelf up and down....but it doesnt move at all..=( for ventilation i have those exaust fans(1st pic^) that move alot air out of cabinet...which should help with smell later down the road hopefully... im working on getting some intake fans with carbon filters to get air from outside into cabinet..
so its been about a month. i belive my guys are doing ok... I recently added some weather stripping for my cab. this stuff is awesome!! it blocks light and Noise!.... does it block smell? Also, every other pic of another plant i see, looks nothing like mine. Others are shorter and xmas tree shaped(like a triangle) and mine is like an upside down triangle...is this bad?
Dude I never would have thought of using those stackable containers like that, thats ingenius awesome job. As for your question they look fine. Every plant grows differently, even when they are the same strain. Oh and that stuff won't block smell btw, or at least Im sure it won't. You should probally think of getting something for the odor now. Let me tell you my girls stink after 1 week of 12/12 lol. So the odor issue can defintaly creep up on you if you aren't ready to tackle it. Last little bit of advice, fill your pots all the way to the top with soil next time. This will give roots more vertical room to grow. When are you going to start 12/12? Your ladies are lookin good btw.
Thanx The Green Man! agreed on the soil, couple people had suggested that aswell. i was actually thinking of repotting into 5gal pots! though i dunno if it is too late and may damage plant? my pots right now are 2.5g i belive... I am anxiously waiting for the smell to come..lol i hope its no too bad. hopeing to switch lights in maybe 2-3weeks. =)
Oh yea I would defintaly transplant then. 2.5 gals are a little small, go with a 3 gal or something bigger. You will probally damage your roots a little when you go to transplant but its no big deal they'll recover. Plus you'll notice a huge explosion of growth once you get them in their new homes.
wow, i really like everyones grow boxes lol. If i had the money i would love to make my own. But, overall nice setup and nice grow so far. For now, my cardboard grow box is working fine hahah! smoke on!
