an odd theory

    so i read a few hash tutorials out of curiosity, and some of them mentioned putting your ground up bud in the freezer for a while to break down the cell wall which makes the hash more potent

    so i wondered, would slightly freezing your bud, then thawing it, make it better for smoking too?

    People freeze cannabis when making hashish because it makes the trichomes more brittle and apt to fall off. This results in easier dissolution in person's solvent of choice and can overall lead to a more balanced hash.

    These results are not conducive to smoking, however. The freezing process can make your cannabis a lot less enjoyable. Any water vapor in the air of the freezer or near the buds themselves will freeze and expand. In addition to contributing to the "loosening" of the trichomes, improper freezing may also wreak havoc on the compounds (turpenes, mostly sesquiterpenes) that give your buds their unique aroma and flavor. If you must freeze your buds, make sure to do so in a completely dry, preferably vacuum sealed container or you risk loosing flavor and aroma. Proper freezing will not reduce potency, however.

    The only time I would recommend freezing your bud is for long term storage if you live in a humid climate or if you want to harvest trichomes (kief) from your trim or stems. If you must freeze it, be careful. An improper freezing can, at worst, result in moldy bud that is unfit for consumption upon thawing.
