I see trees of green, red roses too I see them bloom for me and you And I think to myself what a wonderful world. I see skies of blue and clouds of white The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night And I think to myself what a wonderful world. The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky Are also on the faces of people going by I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do They're really saying I love you. I hear babies cry, I watch them grow They'll learn much more than I'll never know And I think to myself what a wonderful world Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world. I think this old indian proverb says it all Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money.
WOW. Most of you guys/gals are funny. Some just talk numbers. Some of you go religious on me. Others just babble nonsense. The global disasters we will trigger is about upsetting the balance of nature. It doesn't matter if us humans produce 1% of the total CO2 production versus nature's 99% or the other way around. Whatevery % we produce it adds to the problem, permanently. Not because the CO2 is not absorbed in time, but the changes effected progress through time. Nature put this carbon stuff (oil, gas, etc.) in the ground hundreds of millions of years ago. We pump it out the ground, put it on fire, and add it to the atmosphere. The cycle of iceages if measured in tens-of-thousands of years. So this cycle can repeat tens of thousands of times during those hundreds of millions of years the carbon was buried. It's like this. Let's say you can move 1 molecule of oxygen 1 cm forward with your finger right now. Ofcourse your finger pushes around many many more oxygen molecules but just for this example : 1 molecule. This molecule's matter will exist for an eterinity. During that eternity this molecule will interact with other molecules it meets aka bounce like balls on a pooltable. The location of the molecule you moved will determine which other molecules it can bounce with. Those molecules who bounced will inturn bounce with other molecules which they'd never meet if you hadn't more that 1 molecule. That would have 'met' other molecules. Bottom line : you cannot move just 1 molecule with your finger or even just a handfull. You are moving/changing the ENTIRE PLANET/UNIVERSE just by moving your finger. Sad to say it's easy to see how we poison the earth, water and atmosphere. None of you will argue with that I trust. Mankind generates a lot of power with machines to power up other machines. Allmost all machines we make produce a big % of their total power in heat. Simply as a by-product. We ARE heating up the planet in this way, even if all power generated was ultimate 'pollution free' nuclear fusion power. We all know cities are islands of heat. Just drive into one of them on a bike. If you remove the humans from this planet, and it's history, this planet would have been quite a bit colder regardless of other natural causes. 2nd bottom line: So there's no denying we are changing the planet/environment on a vast scale. The laws of physics say this must have its effects. This can only be bad, since the balance of nature was pretty much optimal to begin with! You can deduce that the balance of nature is optimal by noticing how well suited life is for it's environment. Life on Earth of very well suited to live on Earth. You can change Earth but then life must change. Death is also change. A rather crappy one that is. I'm pretty sure I can't do sex&drugs&rock&roll when I'm dead. p.s. : damn I'm high & I'm stoned. And I'm drunk too. And I know I'm right. None of you boys&girls can validly challenge that. p.p.s : I know I can draw a lot of flack with an attitude like this, but I'm an autistic/schizotype kinda guy so I really don't give a shit! **LOL**
Everyone's point of view is welcome here, and this topic isn't going to be turned into another bullshit thread with a bunch of useless debating because of this tripe. If you're going to post, at least have a little respect for your fellow GCers bro. I don't ask for much but here’s where I'm asking. Too much time is spent debating instead of collaborating IMHO. A lot of threads start off with the best intentions and then people like you descend to cause disruption and conflict. Please take that negativity elsewhere! Peace.
So how is it my knowing for sure that I'm right while being stoned & drunk and telling you about it is 'negative & disrespective'? How does this cause conflict? As I see it the 'conflict' is the discussion. Maybe it was my arrogance that bothers you when I said I know I'm right. If so then that's pretty sad. Since when is it bad to tell someone you know for sure what you know? It you're bothered by some other piece that I wrote please discuss it with me, I can back this shit up with physics and logic.
What bothers me is that civilized dialogue has been side stepped time and again in thread after thread. Your arrogance is meaningless to me because I'm interested in people talking to each other, not at each other. I wouldn't waste my time discussing this subject with you because you've now made me waste two postings asking you to show some respect for your fellow GCers, but again you come back to yourself. I created this thread to ask people to go see a movie, not waste more of my precious time debating people. If you don't want to see the movie, don't go.
Dude WTF?!?!?!?! So you start this thread, take a position on the movie, ask us if we agree, many reply and take time show their opinion, I reply I do the same.... and somehow I'm disrespectful & negative?!?!!??! WTF??!!?!??! Looks to you got just what you asked for.
I agree with the last quote the most. The City has so many intelligent members and with all of us being stoners we have a huge opportunity to share our knowledge and learn from the knowledge of others. We can also try to change the minds of others with respectful conversations and in turn have our own minds changed. We can enrich the City by starting topics such as this one and some others that I've recently seen. Eyes had a great one with the Feel-Good thread, too. I remember when the City was way more intellectual and threads were thought-provoking instead of how most of them are now; people really dug it. I challenge everyone to come up with more interesting threads and to be more respectful with your discussions. I'm off topic but wanted to respond to AK's thoughts about how threads end up instead of how they evolve.
"Let every individual and institution now think and act as a responsible trustee of Earth, seeking choices in ecology, economics and ethics that will provide a sustainable future, eliminate pollution, poverty and violence, awaken the wonder of life and foster peaceful progress in the human adventure." ~John McConnell, founder of International Earth Day~ Link: http://www.grinningplanet.com/index.htm
personally i think you've got a sensitive spot there AK and jumped the gun a little, maybe even creating a teeny bit of what you despise, but anyways, i just wanted to say what a great post that was from urgr8estfear. also, what of the repair kits, the things we can do to fight temperature imbalance. clearly thats gotta be one of our biggest challenges for the next decade, century, even the next millenia. just how does one cool things down?
I agree with urgr8estfear, his input in my opinion was probably more logical and sensible than most other inputs, no offense. I honestly think we've gotten to the point where it's too late to turn back, or having people do things to help the environment. Sure it's good to help, more power to you. but i think the only drastic change in the rate of how things are going will probably be caused by humans either wiping each other out, humans majorly fucking each other up and returning to more simple ways of living or ice caps melting and flooding a lot of land, etc. Either way, i think death will be the underlying source for any change to come. No one really cares about anything unless death starts coming down like rain, and even then the care factor is not really up there. The general attitude of everyone is that as long as "I" can live the way it's been, then it's all good. The hindu proverb Greenfingered1 stated out is right on, people will never learn until it's too late, or atleast that's how it's always been. Unless just about everyone starts caring and changes the mindset/attitude without thought to even deride it, only then will anything change. Humans are the only "balance" on Earth, and we tend to have wicked minds. It seems we truly cannot appreciate anything until its gone, and it's a damn shame.
No, not too sensitive, I think I'm sort of burned out. I have a lot going on with my grow in terms of its size, I just started a new job, and I have an apartment inspection coming up in about a week that I'm not looking forward to. I have a room full of Marijuana plants in full fucking bloom and I'm literally surrounded by neighbors above, below, and on either side of me - AHHHHHHHHHHH! (Ugh, the perils of the urban grower!) Needless to say my paranoia level is at an all time high. Anyway... Hell I probably need to take a break so I can focus exclusively on my op and not getting busted. I always threaten to but then I find myself back here at GC again utterly absorbed in this reality outside of my reality. Also, I think I have some rather sizably unrealistic expectations about situations I have no control over. It would be ideal if we could all unite with respect and work together as a cohesive force toward liberation of the plant and toward world peace but the reality is we're all just people trying to find our way in life and GrassCity is our sweet little oasis in the eye of the storm. Anyway... I gotta go smoke some dope and chill the fuck out. Stay green.<O</O
Allright AK Infinity I understand. No hard feelings here on this end. I'll +rep ya to compensate for the -rep I gave you when you pissed me off.
(1.) Yea tho AK hath sinned he doth feel a mighty regret beyond all imagining pounding madly in his breast. Even as mortal men rest their heads at dusk and deeply into the dark verily doth AK feel only the pains of sleeplessness o're his shortsightedness and hypocrisy. (2.) Even as his soul is damned he works as if his salvation were categorically assured. Long ago it was written in the dusty annals of time that if AK is a diligent steward of God he shall perhaps be found blameless on that last day. Let it be so O Lord even as AK doth smoke weed may his sins be forgiven if he prays correctly and with the right bong. ~AK 2: 1-2~ Kidding... Thanks bro, I could always use the rep. Kidding again... Seriously, thanks. ~AK - The partially all-wise master of prose~<O</O
ah, prose. let me fill up some space with some poem too then... (^from wisdom news email, and lissa always follows up with a bit too...) even despite the trials of appocalyptic depression (as so eloquently displayed by .viscious. a few posts ago), let it only be the old world that is destroyed. not us, not the inhabitable, not the whole. these shall survive. it is their duty and joy to do so.

"we are polluting the atmosphere" to "we have been polluting the atmosphere"
http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=2286465894089385989 ... well... thats pretty out there isnt it. reminds me of... chem trails. (<- do a search on that term )
It occurred to me the other day I still haven't seen this movie. I'm not expecting to learn much which I don't already know, but I should download the torrent at very least I suppose.
