I know this isn't the smartest thing to do, but I think it would be a fun summer experiment. I live in Michigan, live down a mile dirt, private road, where my house is then surrounded by 10 acres of woods (which I own.) I think I might go out and toss/plant 10-30 seeds, and just see what happens. I have no intention of growing indoors or outdoors, I don't have the time as I am currently in Medical school and will be doing an internship over the summer. I just think it would be great to come back in a few months and have a nice supply of bud . When would be the best time to "plant" the seeds? I was thinking mid-late June. Should I attempt to separate Males/females? What would the best way of doing this be, if I am just having them grow in the woods. I am sure I can answer a lot of the growing steps through reading stickies and stuff. Basically, all I want to do is toss some seeds down in June and come back later with weed grown. Let me know if this is realistic at all... Thank you.
I know a lot of people around me that do that. I would start about a month after your last frost because at your lattitude, you'll need the longest season you can get. As for the males, pull them as soon as you notice them. It's very likely you won't catch them in time though if you don't visit them every few days/weeks and if your crops get pollinated, they will focus on making seeds instead of THC. But yes, you could get some bud that way.
Mmmmk, thanks man. I will most likely be able to visit the plants every 2-5 days. I don't really know how to recognize males or remove males, but I will read up on it. And I am not really looking for gratuitous amounts of weed, a few ounces would be great, if possible. How many seeds should I drop? Should I just toss them about, or should I dig holes and plant them? Sorry, I'm quite a noob, only have done a little bit of reading.
Don't burry your seeds lower than a half inch. As for how many seeds to drop, that's up to you. And don't worry, you'll have lots of time to read up on how to sex plants. It takes awhile to get to that stage outside.
Right now I only have a bag with like 6 seeds in it. I will ask my friends to start saving their seeds or something. Thanks for your help man.
6 seeds will be a good experiment imo. Just remember that you have a 50/50 chance on M/F. 3 plants could probably give you an ounce. More if you actually tended to your plants. You get out what you put in yada yada yada.
Is there a way to tell if they are M/F before planting? And if 3 plants would yield an ounce... I could deal with that for sure.
No, you can't tell before planting. You can buy seeds that are genetically 99% apt to be female, but you can't tell the difference just by looking at them. Also, it's really hard to determine yield with all the factors involved. I guess just be happy with what you get lol.
Of course. I'm rather excited now, and looking forward to June, where I will toss down some seeds, and see what happens. Thanks for all the info man.
mmmm i wouldnt wait till the end of june man, i live in MA and im going to put mine outside the beginning of next month. and if theyre sativas you really have no chance, it gets cold too fast once the days get short for them to really finish. i would also reccommend atleast germinating them inside. fold up a piece of paper towel and wet it. not soaking wet but nice and damp with warm water, maybe a capful of hydrogen peroxide. then put your seeds in it and fold it up. seal em in a zip lock baggy and put them in a warm dark place like under your cable box or under a box on top of your fridge. do that like 2 days before you want to plant them. then just plant them in the ground 2-3 ft apart. water them occasionally. pull out the males in late august. if you ended up with 3 females you could potentially get as much as 3 lbs!!!! but like the previous poster said, the more you put in the more you get. just make sure you pick a spot that gets 5-7 hours of DIRECT sunlight everyday and you should get a good crop! the best of luck man just do some research! its a weed that just loves to grow, only takes as much work as your willing to put it.
Germinate them and plant them. If you just throw them around, the birds eat 'em. If you have ground squirrels around, they will decimate them. Put some protective fencing or something around them until they get bigger. Do your hw so you know how to spot males.
