LONDON, England (CNN) -- The Sun newspaper in Britain has released what it says is a cockpit video from a U.S. fighter jet being used in the investigation of a "friendly-fire" incident in which a British soldier was killed. Lasting just over 15 minutes, it begins just before the A-10 Thunderbolt pilot spots the four British vehicles. The local time is 4.36 p.m., or 1.36 p.m. GMT. The pilot's wingman, in a second A-10, had the call sign POPOV35. The other main call signs are MANILA HOTEL, MANILA34, and LIGHTNING34 -- three U.S. Marine Corps Forward Air Controllers on the ground attached to British units. part of the transcript "I know what you're talking about!" the first pilot says, after asking about the location of the prospective targets. "OK, well they got orange rockets on them," the second pilot says. "Orange rockets?" the first pilot asks again, telling the other pilot they need to get back to base soon. "I think killing these damn rocket launchers, it would be great," the second pilot says. http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/02/06/video.transcript/index.html http://www.latimes.com/news/nationw...,0,1693899.story?coll=la-ap-topnews-headlines I don't even know what to say. i dont see why this should come between the alliance , this happened 3 years ago , its just that the video was recently released , 3 years after denial of its existence. it seems like a mistake and i hope everyone involved can forgive themselves , things like this happen in war , my heart goes out to the soldiers family , they know how they're son died now.
a horrible loss. Not surprised though. The Americans have managed to kill 5 Canadian soldiers in friendly-fire incidents. Maybe the British people will actually get a public apology.
fucking idiots shooting at an orange target was my first thought, i mean surely they should have checked it out and not just accepted there were no friendlies in the area.. they fucked up but yeah i dont really see this as being important when you count how many fucking civilians die every day because of america...
the thing that sucked the most was that those pilots checked with the main people 3times i think and every time they said there were no friendlies in the area. you would think you'd send out a message asking if there were any friendlies in the area then just saying "well there shouldnt be"
I hope it does; the sooner we distance ourselves from your arsehole president, the better.... As for getting a public apology; don't bank on it. They've been wriggling like worms on a hook for months as it is, and yet you guys have only just heard about it on your national news! Funny, that...
couldnt you see some guys flying one of those automatic planes that people drive from the ground?(the ones that have no humans on them) and hes there just sittin in front of a tv with a joystick, and he bombs this place, squints at the screen and he realizes it wasnt the right spot. And hes just sittin there like, aw shit. oh well. i could totally see that happening in iraq or something.
damn that does infact suck. WIth all the techlogoy we have im suprised we make such idiotic mistakes.
I hope that now maybe the families of our lads can get some closure knowing what happened. God bless our soldiers, with all the politics going on I know that the majority are there to help the Iraqi people and I hope that the American pilot can overcome the trauma of such a situation. That said, death is perhaps the only certainty in war and we would do well move forward with forgiveness.
as if war wasn't stupid enough to begin with...start killing your own side and its retarted. thats why i would never fight for this country some dumbass would end up popping me in the back or something even dumber, hell no im not goin out like that.
smoke weed, not iraq. britain needs to get OUT of there and then america will abandon their president..then maybe a good government will be installed in America. - galenh
yeah im from the uk and it does suck to get shot by your own side lol imo it was the air traffic controllers fault for telling the pilots there were no friendlys in the area . just a stupid mistake really ,but these things will happen when countries go to war i think both the usa and uk should get the fuck out of iraq now, those guys are a lost cause and will never have peace coz they are so brainwashed by religion and all the different segments all think they are in the right.
Eh, it's all perspective. Unfortunately, I've reached a point of cynicism where I think war is necessary for our species until we're ready to collectively make some very significant social, economical and spiritual progress. Of course this could take centuries more. And I'm delving into a complete different topic.
