America

  1. Not sure if this is the right section or not, didnt know where else, anyway... I'm from Australia. I browse a few forums, play online games, etc, most of these communities are made up of Americans, so conversation topics are usually about things that happen in America. For example:

On here I read about how some areas and cities you just dont go to. Driving down the street is basically suicide cause your gonna get shot by some thugs for your wallet etc. (new orleans, the bronx (sp?))

Your schools have sniffer dogs and drug tests randomly. Marijuana on campus = expelled.

I read threads about cops, what comes accross to me is that they seem to be the most stupid and often violent, do*chebag motherfuckers the world has ever, EVER, EVER produced.

I cannot fathom any of these things.

When I watch American TV shows, I often sit there completely astounded and amazed that people can be so stupid and so ignorant, I know that most of you arent like this, but shit... how do you bring yourself to turn on the TV at all? Fox News, etc etc. WTF?

The whole uni lifestyle portrayed through the media, parties, drugs, just looks like pure awesomeness.

I thought I'd have more examples but cant think of any on the spot... fucken weed lol :p

Basically all I'm asking is; "is your country really that much of a madhouse?"

    I cant wait to visit.

  2. No, people just don't shoot at you for no reason if you're minding your own business.

  3. "I wouldn't even get off the interstate in that town anymore it's become such a hellhole, too bad, it used to be very fun place.

Now you want to talk about an unsafe place for anyone, don't cross into a Mexican bordertown. People get abducted on nearly a daily basis in TJ and Calexico. I understand the towns along the TX and AZ border are just as bad. "

  4. Pretty much, America can be pretty crazy.

American TV is incredibly stupid, Fox News= Fail. I despise what popular music and media has become, it's completely washed out our taste for music and entertainment in general

Cops are cops, you have some good ones (I got let off with a warning for possession by a cop once.)

As well as bad ones (corrupt ones who take your stuff for "evidence" and search through your things stating they have "probable cause" even when they don't.)

    The moral is this....

Just be smart and know how to handle things and 99% of the time you wont be caught/ given flack by anyone

First, keep in mind that America is big. It's huge. Sure, bad stuff happens in some places, but it isn't everywhere. Second, the influence of the media. They pick what they want to show, and so they ignore all the good things that happen (charity work, volunteers, what-have-you) and instead hype up every murder, shooting, and what-not. The average American isn't going to kill you just for bumping into him on the street. My school has never had sniffer dogs or drug tests, so that's definitely not the case for everyone. Cops can be douchebags here in Chicago, but it depends on the individual officers (although quite a lot are pretty racist, but hey, you get used to it).

Basically, you can't generalize about the U.S. any more than I can say that you throw shrimp on the barbie and all wear khaki cargo shorts while wrestling "crocs". Does that clear anything up?

Edit: Almost forgot, the culture of fear thing (perpetrated by the media, as I've pointed out). Watch "Bowling for Columbine". Michael Moore tries to get down to the root of American violence.

  6. It sounds like you just came on here to America bash, because I haven't seen any of that stuff on GC.

I have some questions about Australia. How do you feel about the country wide firewall they're putting up this year? How about the man going to jail for child cruelty for reposting a video that had appeared on America's Funniest Home Videos. Someone was charged for possessing child pornography; the image was a cartoon of The Simpsons fucking. Videos of golden showers are illegal. Videos of female ejaculation are illegal. How do you feel about 160,000 European criminals being shipped to Australia in the 1700s?

  7. I totally agree with Zzzonked, as I'm from NZ and watching shows like Cops just amazes me. Everything is so over the top there. I havn't been to America, and I'm sure in most of the places it's not like that, but watch a American Cops show then watch a NZ Cops show like Police 10/7 and you will notice the difference right away.

As for American television, don't fucking watch it. It is SO FUCKING EMABARASSING sometimes to be an American because of the ignorance that we have. They have NO IDEA whats going on around them in different countries and to be honest most people don't care. They only care about whats going on around them.

Is it a madhouse like they say? Hell no, its really not that bad. There are some places I wouldn't recommend driving around here in Chicago because they will pull you out of your car. They will rob you and kill you for no good reason. For the money you have or the clothes on your back. They will kill you for it, for anything.

Don't watch fox or any of that shit. They tell us anything and lie to us on a daily basis.

I love my country but we don't worry about the shit we need to. There are problems that need to be taken care of. I don't watch any of that shit and I think American politics are a joke.

It's who you know here. Doesn't matter what you know.

  10. America has 71 times the population of New Zealand. They have a lot more footage of crime.

  11. you went all out from the 1700s for real? how about slavery in america if youre on about it like that.

but entertainment all together is a fail. some shows deserve a laugh but most i just sit n watch how retarded it is.

  12. What about slavery in America?

  13. theres good parts and bad parts

some places you can leave your bike unlocked while you are gone for an hour watching a movie

others your bike is gone in 60seconds while you piss :p

  14. It depends.

America is a big place. There are some truly terrible areas. There are also some incredibly nice areas.

It all depends on the location. Most people (90 percent) don't live anywhere close to a place where you can get killed just for walking down the wrong street. Most people live in nice houses in a suburb somewhere.

Wow I couldn't agree more about our television. NBC and Fox deliberately perpetuate the two party Republican and Democrat system. Quite sickening I must say

It is quite possible to be shot if you happen to be standing near where someone is shooting someone else, esp. if they are driving at the time. The "shooting from a moving vehicle" thing tends to mess up their aim.

Why does your country insist on such strange edits of video games?

Also, why is there so much violence during cookouts? (I read the Sidney Morning Herald, for what that is worth-and it seems like barbeques are often quite violent)

  17. Our country doesnt insist upon it, just one old fashioned idiot in SA has all the power to say no, he has recently considered stopping his attempt at censorship apparently.

No idea about the violent cookouts haha..
