Alternating nodes ?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by blanchdave, Jan 4, 2008.

  1. Just a quick , question....

Alot of people on here say that they keep vegging until the plants get alternating nodes.

What exactly does this mean ? A pic would be pretty cool.

    Thanks

  2. Young nodes are symmetrical, two branches growing out in oppposite directions from the same point on the stalk, like this:

Alternating nodes are where one branch grows out then the branch on the opposite side grows out from a different point, like this:

    .|
    .|/
    \|
    .|
    .|

  3. Don't have a pic but it is when the leaves, instead of growing in pairs directly opposite from each other on the stem, start to grow in an alternating pattern up the stem. Dunno know if that makes sense. Alternating nodes signifies that the plant is sexually mature.

  4. Thanks for clearing that up !! and the speedy response ;)
