  1. Since I can't make a thread about no more negative rep and since I apparently don't visit the appropriate channels to learn about it either -> Probably should have stickied something to the top of every board instead of deleting threads about it.
In order to stick to the guidelines and make this a political thread:

Question: Will the removal of neg rep from free users be a failed experiment?

I think so. We went from being able to poorly police ourselves to not being able to police ourselves at all. Now only the people who can pay for the service are allowed to decide what posts are worth negative rep.

As a result we will see an influx of trolls and insults and for some reason we are made to assume that because someone is able to pay for a forum subscription that they are better equipped at discerning which threads deserve negative rep.

Also, we will see an increase in the number of threads and posts that are being reported, as that is now the only method of handling harmful posts.

    Anyone have anything else?

I should note, 90% of my rep easily came from the politics board. It is not hard to be tactful and disagree. I do it all the time, now I just don't have any incentive to not be a total asshole, I just can.

  2. Good points, and i agree. I just can't understand the purpose of it,,,,why?

  3. Really Fencewalker? Clearly this is a political thread . . . why the move?

  4. They probably think that because someone holds this forum dear enough to them to pay for it, that they will make wise decisions regarding it.

Kinda reminds me of that Public vs. Private fire department debate...

  5. Firstly, your other thread on it was deleted because there is already a thread about it here: No more neg rep?

Because it's a question about the forums and belongs in General Feedback, not Politics.

    Good.
I fail to see anything wrong with people reporting more posts.

If someone is doing something worthy of receiving a -rep, it's probably something that should be reported anyway.

It's a test, guys. No one has said that this is the way it's going to be forever.

It may work out, it may not, but it's only been 4 days so lets give it some time and find out. :bongin:

  6. I hate it. Sucks to be neg repped by some douchebag that pays.

  7. Weak.

  8. It will just create class warfare and envy, which in turn will cause more disrespect in the forums.

  9. I can do 30 pushups backwards in 20 minutes while sitting down, you really wanna call me weak?

And I don't know what "registered user group" even means.

  10. Guess I'll have to save my pennies so I can buy my way into being a real Blade again.:(

  11. Everyone who isn't either a) staff member or b) has paid for a membership is in the "registered user group" - it's the default user group name when you start a VBB message board.

  12. I think it should be all or nothing. I'd rather no rep than just positive rep. It breaks an already broken system even more.

  13. This^^^,

What exactly is rep abuse anyways?

what are the reasons we CAN'T neg rep someone?

  14. I don't think there should be reasons for neg repping. If you're someone who would neg rep for stupid reasons you pry aren't going to get enough positive rep for it to matter.

And if you got neg repped from someone with a lot of rep you pry deserved it.

  15. I would prefer no rep as well, osg. I also would prefer that no one have the ability to give negative rep...all or nothing. It just doesn't seem quite right to me but this was the route that was chosen.

The rep system just needs to go *poof*.

SJ is trying this way first. Like I said, it's a test.
    test test test

  16. If members didnt stomp around like they were better then others, then the neg rep wouldnt be so damn important... All the insults and wise cracks because someone see's things differently is sad and immature.

the comment that was made about policeing urselfs with neg rep is a joke..
Its merely another way to try and hurt another member. it takes the same amoiunt of clicks to report...but then you dont feel the satifaction huh...come on..
And to feel superior you insult stoned people...Do you even understand that its not difficult to do this... why the satifaction...maybe you should just arm wrestle an old lady..That will make you feel strong to....;)

If ya cant disagree with someone without giving them neg rep then ur not mature enough to handle the rep system.

If ya hate it that bad spend 10 bucks and get a membership..
You cant squeeze out 10 bucks? ...Geeze.....
You spend how much time on these boards and cant do that??

Sounds like a group of teenage girls to me.
    Time to grow up....:D:p

  17. I only give neg rep for bad behavior, never because I just happen to disagree with someone. Unfortunately not everyone is the same.

  18. Yeah, I don't know where this idea came from - that we want neg rep back so we can get off to neg repping people who disagree.

I've never neg'd anyone for disagreement. I neg people who call names or insult each other. I get into bitter disagreements with Dronetek all the time and we've positive rep'd each other.

So I don't understand where that is coming from, if it is happening it's not with the users who have posted here.

But do I feel good when I neg rep someone? No . . . I'd prefer it need not be done, but knowing someone who brings the board down is being punished for it is definitely satisfying - it improves the board.

Again, I don't know where the satisfaction motivator was derived from, but if that's your gut instinct with this that's cool. I'm actually somewhat enjoying that I don't have to be as nice as I used to be, especially when it's the 5th time in a day of seeing a question in a stickied thread =)

And hey Bud, if 10 bucks isn't hard for you to squeeze out how about you buy us all memberships =).

  19. It definitely is happening, quite a lot actually.

I don't think I've even used -rep since I became a mod, because I mainly only used it on posts that were rule-breaking before anyway. People name-calling or flaming like you said.
But there are those who throw around their -rep like it's going out of style.

Well, that right there makes it pretty clear to me that if nothing else, this experiment will show us who's nice because they are genuinely nice people and who is just acting nice so that they don't get -repped.
