Not really sure where to put this so, if I should move it to somewhere else, I will happily do so. On to the issue. I have never had an allergic reaction to anything. At all. So this came as a rather large surprise. It started around week 3-4 of flower. Some background... my grow room is separated from my living room by a door. Said door is not perfectly sealed but, I got one of those draft guards on it. It's in a closet with a large crawlspace. I live in the basement of a 4 level house and this crawlspace is under the entry way and laundry room. I have about a 15x15 area separated from the other half of the space which is occupied by the water heater, furnace, etc. So, whenever I'm sitting anywhere in my living room (which is basically my bedroom too. about a 15x30 room) I can hardly breathe, sometimes I can't thru my nose, my eyes itch and water, and sometimes I get sneezing attacks. Typical allergy symptoms. When I'm outside, up stairs or basically anywhere else, I'm fine. I can also touch the plant with no negative effects. I've taken pretty much every allergy medication known and none have any effect. I keep my room at 40-50% humidity so, I can't imagine it's mold. There have been an abnormal amount of houseflies in my room but, I don't know if that could be related. And, I'm not allergic to marijuana in general, I smoke daily. I'm just at a loss. TL;DR:: Is it possible to have allergic reactions to female plants in flower even though they produce no pollen and I'm not allergic to anything else? But, only when I'm in the room adjacent to theirs
Hm. That's odd. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to be allergic to female plants. Although, it seems like pollen is a big contributor to allergy symptoms. Does the room you have issues in have leaky windows? It could be that room is contaminated, but not by marijuana. Check that room and make sure there's nothing in there bothering you.
I have heard of people being allergic but, it's always to the touch. I can touch it all day long and no problems but, as soon as I walk into my living room... Death. I keep my windows open most of the time but, I don't see how that would be an issue since when I'm outside, I'm fantastic. But thanks for the input Trying to explore every possibility.
Jugganate, that would make sense but his allergies seem to be respiratory and not of chemical poisoning kind of deal. That is something to consider though. OP, try closing up the windows. It's worth a try. It's possible that there's a plant near your window or something that may be giving you issues. When you're outside, there is a breeze moving everything. If that stuff gets in your house, your house isn't as ventilated as being outdoors. You may have to deal with sneezing, Holmes. lol
That's a good point. Only problem with that theory is, I've been handling the same stuff for months now and no problems until recently. And, like spyro said, it's definite respiratory problems. It's worth a shot, I'm definitely going to close my windows. I can't imagine it would help but, I don't think it'll hurt much either other than my room being hot lol. If it was just sneezing, I wouldn't have a problem living with it .Unfortunately, it's a violent reaction. My eyes burn like nothing I've ever felt. My nose gets literally clogged to the point I can't breathe out of it. I also have a constant sore throat because, when I sneeze, it's like 10-15 painful ones in a row. I even passed out once from sneezing so hard lol.
Good point, I was just considering how the water in a bubbleponic or similar system could become aerosolized. But I agree close the windows maybe wear a painters mask for a while until you can figure out what it is exactly. Best of luck.
Bwahaha. I just imagined myself sitting on my couch with a gas mask trying to smoke my bong. I do see what you mean with the chemicals tho. Especially if one was to use an aero system. However, I really don't think chemicals is the issue. Thanks for the input though! I'm also going to replace all the air filters in my furnace and central air for shit's and giggles. I still can't believe I'm getting allergic reactions for the first time at 21 years old. Has anyone heard of allergies developing over time? I'm just hoping it is indeed a reaction to something outside and not my beautiful girls. It would break my heart to not be able to grow
This might work. Hahaha. But I have heard of adults developing allergies over time. Another idea could be mold.
Great plan. I thought mold as well. I fucking ripped apart my grow searching for anything that could harbor mold... notta. So, I turned to my room and still nothing. I'm a pretty meticulous person. But, I'm not ruling out mold yet. There have been an unusual amount of houseflies in my living room so, maybe there is something I'm not seeing but they are finding.
If changing the filters don't help, Get a air purifier, HEPA or an electronic one. I have one that runs all the time and I cannot smell my plants at all unless I am actually in the tent. Plus I cough and sneeze a lot less since I started using it.
I recommend cleaning with hydrogen peroxide. It degrades without leaving phosphates behind. To kill gnats larva. I read somewhere that cannabis produces allergic reactions to individuals with latex allergy... don't know if that applies to you but yeah. I thought it interesting.
I use 30% H2O2 (about 10x stronger than what you can get at walmart) to clean basically everything. Shit is magical That is extremely interesting. I have never heard that before but, thankfully I do not have latex allergies. Literally the only time I have had an allergic reaction was when I was like 12 and a bee stung my foot which swelled up. @RC Flyer: that's a great plan. I had thought of that before for hiding smells, god knows why I haven't thought of that for helping these allergies What type of purifier do you use?
I have two Oreck XL's, one in the bedroom and one in the grow room. You can find them on e-bay at a discount.
So, I went to walmart to check out an air purifier. Figured I could buy it and just bring it back in a couple days and buy a cheaper one on craigslist if it works I took apart my central air and took an air compressor to it. Surprisingly, there wasn't much in it but, it had just been cleaned about a month and a half ago. However, my furnace filter was terrifying. I can hardly believe that air was passing through it haha. I've been in my room for about 20 minutes which is the longest I have gone without a severe reaction so, something is working. Tomorrow I'm going to start going backwards and open my windows, if that doesn't trigger anything, take away the filter, etc... to see what is helping me. Thanks for the help and ideas. I'll keep this updated with my findings just in case this is ever helpful to someone else
lol guys. Can't believe I'm the first to say this by post #16 but pollen is from MALE plants. Not female. Pollen = plant jizz.
Actually, I said it in the first post but now in see I accidentally put "to pollen" instead of no lol. Thanks for catching that tho. And it's basically assumed knowledge and that's why this allergic reaction makes no sense.
Just wanna say people develop and lose alerigies year to year last year I was super allergic to pollen this year I'm not you could of developed a allergy to almost anything
Thanks for the input man. That's good to know. Just wish I could figure out what the fuck it is lol. I was doing fine last night but, I woke up unable to breathe. So, hopefully the air purifier just needs some time to clear it out. I have been working all day so, I'll find out when I get home. I thought of a new factor too. I'm not sure if it was before or after this started but, my nose got busted up pretty good. Anyone know any issues that could come from that?
