If you think you know anything about building computers look below, if not dont reply.

I have been doing shit with computers for awhile now, since i was like 12, so i recently finally had money to build my dream computer.

    Here are specs:
    Asrock 970 extreme3 am3+ motherboard
    Amd Fx 8150 3.6ghz 8 core cpu
    4x4gb team x ddr3 1600 speed ram
    550 watt cpu
nvidia 1gb 128 bit gefore graphics card
    1TB samsung HD

Now, i got everything in there, i have a external cd drive for now.
First i had a 450 watt cpu that came with my case i bought, it wouldnt turn on, i put a 550 watt in there, and now it turns on, everything is running fine, hd, gfx card fan, cpu fan, case fan, it seems like it is working fine.

here is the problem, i get no video what so ever, the monitor is fine, the gfx card is fine, i try it with only 1 stick of the 4gb ram, still nothing. I try without ram, i get constant beeps from the motherboard speaker. Also, the motherboard has no on board video, so I have to get it from the video card, but it says that it should still give video.

I have RMA'd the motherboard and sent it back today, as i see the particular motherboard has been doing this for many people.

So blade computer wizards, am I correct to assume its the motherboard thats the problem?

  2. It's very possible it's that motherboard.
Just curious, how the hell is that a "dream computer"? Nothing special about it IMO

  3. 8 cores, can overlock to whatever, it did set the world record for overclocking, just need the right cpu cooler. you can hardly buy a computer with these capabilities from the open market, if you can, your paying 3x as much for intel.

  4. Oh ok, I didn't think of it that way :smoke:

  5. I'm not too sure but it could possibly be the power supply not having enough amps on the 12v rails to properly power the graphics card? Ofcoarse this is only if you get the MoBo back and it still doesnt work.

  6. The graphics card is working, fan spinning ect

I actually read some of the reviews, and people have tried multiple motherboards with the same issue, today I got newegg to change it into a refund, going to try a different 970 series board.

Im thinking either gigabyte or asus or msi im not sure yet, they are basically the same as the asrock board though.

  7. dude go 990 rather than 970. better for running dual cards.

  8. I could of swore I replied to this thread. Well I very much think your PSU isn't putting out enough power for your GPU and CPU get a bigger one 550 is small.

Just because there's enough power to spin a little fan doesn't mean there's enough to power the GPU all the way

  10. I will try with another motherboard, if you read any reviews on this board alot of people have the no video problem with this board, i can order a 650 watt one if it does the same problem

  11. It seriously would not hurt to get a higher PSU.

  12. shoulda got a cheaper processor and a better gpu imo

  13. 'nvidia 1gb 128 bit gefore graphics card'

In the words of number 5: 'Input! Need input!'

550W PSU is pretty low these days, knowing the actual card would make it pretty simple to see if that's where the problem is.

  14. will get new motherboard, different brand, might get 990fx get the amd vision on my desktop. 550 watt is from my old computer, it happened to turn on when i put the 550 watt in, i will try a 650-800 watt one if it doesnt work

    You need 700-750 minimum.

Or not... Considering I have a 1090t, 6950, and I only use a 550 watt. The new parts use less power so yeah 500 is a little under but 700s over kill.

  17. figured 550 was enough, going to get different mobo and see, seems like almost every asrock mobo does this no video bs.

  18. Going over on psu and spending a few extra dollars is much better than getting a cheap one and having to buy a new video card...

  19. You guys are ignoring the fact that there is more to Power Supplies than wattage. Graphics cards specifically work off of the Power Supplies 12v rails, so even if you have enough wattage you might not be able to power up a nice card if you dont have enough amps on your 12v rails. You need to find the specs for your PSU and then read up on your graphics card, the box the card came in will list how many Watts and how many Amps are recommended to power the card.

Also I have heard of people underpowering graphics cards, and while the card turns on and functions completely for a short time it will shit the bed after a few months. Or like another poster said it could just be the fan powering on and not the rest of the card. Or it could be the Motherboard like you stated, so I would definitely wait to get the RMA and check that out. In the mean time do some research on your Card and Power Supply and make sure you are giving it enough juice, you really dont want to kill your card (or potentially the entire computer) and waste your hard earned money.
