Alcohol tincture help!

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by JonNyR23, May 19, 2018.

  1. Hi first time making green dragon did I do it right ?

    Decarb 240f 50 mins..
Put weed in freezer while I go buy alcohol .... 96% alcohol UK shelves..
Added alcohol and mixed around 7 mins...
Filtered then put in glass jar, 175f to boil a small amount of alcohol away to reduce it but more potency in small volume of alcohol?

  2. Looks like you did things mostly right.
Decarb @ 240 F for 40 min is a little better than 50 min, but ovens vary, and you're fine.
This is a controversial statement, but I believe the strained out sludge will still contain about 20% of the medicine with your soaking time.
That could be checked out by soaking the sludge for a few days in a small amount of alcohol, restraining, reducing it to a small volume, and trying it.
If my 20% estimate is correct, then 30 grams of dry sludge might produce as much medicine as 6 grams of herb.

  3. I did 27 grams...

Well thanks was unsure hehe.... I tried it earlier
.. when I stand up I'm spinning around haha

I think less alcohol next time and 48 hour soak next time

  4. Long soaks will pick up more chlorophyll and plant waxes that some people find offensive.
That doesn't matter to many of us though.

  5. Jon, you might want to check out PsychedelicSam's Green Dragon recipe in either the "Another Tincture Thread" or "Dragon Lite" threads. His method involves putting the decarbed weed and bottle of alcohol in the freezer for 24 hours then combining and shaking for 5 minutes. Then you put the jar with the weed and alcohol back in the freezer for 2 more hours, then take out and shake for another 5 minutes. After that, strain the alcohol into a new jar but then add some more alcohol to the spent weed in the original jar and shake for another 5 minutes, which rinses out any thc still in there. Once you strain that alcohol into the new jar, you then reduce the alcohol down to half its volume using a stove or crockpot. The tincture that comes out from that recipe is pleasant tasting but very potent. Both recipe threads are worth checking out the next time you make a tincture.

  6. So this is what I've decided to do with my next batch, will this work?

I'm gonna decarb at 325°F for 5 mins give or take... once cool add the 96% Alcohol and I'll leave it for 4/5 days in the freezer, shaking it every day for 5 mins.... then I'll filter alcohol to glass beaker, I'll also do a quick wash to remove anymore thc left in the plant material (buds) ...

I'm gonna boil the alcohol at 175f until I'm left with a black concentrate at the moment (hash oil) then I'm gonna add olive oil while applying a low heat and mix the hash oil and olive oil.... making a strong tincture......Alcohol is only used for extracting the goodness from the bud.

    Will this be good????

  7. You should be fine, but there are a couple of things to consider.
First, a 1 minute error for your decarb is a 20% error, whereas a 1 minute error in a 40 minute 240 F decarb is only a 2.5% error, making a high temp decarb more error prone.
Second, there exist distilling devices that can reclaim the expensive alcohol: Extractcraft Source, Green Oil Machine, walmart online cheap GOM clone.

  8. So it's best to do a 240f for 40 mins instead of a quick decarb... will do that then thanks and it's all good as I've created a vacuum chamber and I'm just gonna do butane washes...... really cheap...

  9. I wasn't trying to talk you out of a 300 F+ decarb, just to be careful.
Some people prefer the faster, higher temp decarb.

  10. Ah the reason I was gonna do a high temp decarb is to minimize the amount of Terpenes loss.I heard a short decarb saves the Terpenes????

  11. I've always thought that lower temps also save terpenes, since certain ones begin to vaporize at 245-250. I do 225 F for 60 mins which has always worked for me.

  12. Your making double the work you really need if your making Oil vs Tincture.
Can go direct to oil with your decarbed weed and skip the whole Alcohol steps.

Tincture = weed washed in high proof Alcohol
Cannabis oil = Coconut oil (any cooking oil works) soaked weed powder or Hash.

Hallucinating Hash Capsules for Hemp Heads

Hash Master 5000 - Dry Ice Method, Hash Oil Capsules, Everclear Tincture

Each thread shows the different approaches to the creation of both products.
I do the long route from tincture to RSO to Bioavailable oil but it's more to recover every last scrap of usable goodness from the weed scraps left after making hash-kief from all my bud.

Reduced Tincture to RSO is vile stuff, Like licking road tar it's bitter as hell and lingers in the taste buds for an hour.
While both approaches work well the direct weed to oil is far more pleasant and tasty.

  13. OP you have been directed to two threads that have the best methods for a green dragon tincture and you insist on making the way you want.

Please do not ask questions if you know more than the rest of us.
