Should only be once, but if the top 2 inches of soil are dry, go ahead and water. Use tepid distilled water, or leave some water out for a day; it should be fine for watering after about 24 hours.
After the first month or so, I watered mine every 3 days, I think. Learn how to tell by the soil's appearance and feel whether you need to water or not.
