I bought a small air pump and the package says whisper quiet but that thing is MF'ing loud! Is there a way to dampen the sound? Can I wrap it with something or ??? Has anyone else had this problem in a hydroponic grow where they used an air pump with air stone that was so loud it wasn't stealth?
Some air pumps will not be "stealth" unless there is some back pressure. What happens if you block the output? If it quiets down you may need to either valve it or add a restriction.
I tried what you suggested and discovered that it isn't the pump making the noise it's the air coming out of the air stone. I guess the reservoir isn't deep enough to absorb the sound of air bubbling out and I had used a larger stone, I replaced it with the smaller stone and the noise reduced by half (at least). Thanks for the advice.
