air circulation - vital?

  1. I'm going on holiday for a week...was just wondering if my flowering plant will be allright by itself. light and watering i think aren't factors i should worry about, but what about the lack of recirculated air??

i heard the plant produces nasty toxins which have to be blown away from the plant...but will a week or so of depriving it from this cause big problems?

any tips/suggestions would be much appreciated

  2. Can you elaborate on your setup? Closet or room? Number of plants? Do you have intake and exhaust at all?

  3. in short, fresh air is VITAL!

  4. my two medium-sized plants are in a cupboard, about as high as myself, with a cross sectional area of 2m squared. the plants have big pots, so i assume there will be enough retention for them not to need water for a week. my light is on an auto-timer (12/12). to get complete darkness, i seal the cupboard to that there's NO light coming in at all. there's no exhaust system or anything...they seem to be happy with me merely opening the door every day.

will they not be OK by themselves for just over a week?? (in terms of stale air)

many thanks for the quick responses by the way!

  5. Don't believe everything you hear. All plants by their very being consume Co2 and in return produce O2.

If you can, leave the door cracked open and place a small fan inside to circulate air. A build up of heat and humidity will ultimately lead to the plants in ability to breath off water and in the long run you'll smother the plants and see molds develop.

Shade windows in the room as best you can to stop unwanted light from interrupting the dark periods while you're away. Aluminum foil works well for this.
