aguy's first grow (bagseed/cfl)

    Well I'm finally getting things rolling on my first grow. Just ordered my lights (2 85w CFL at 3000k and 1 85w CFL at 6500k), and I'll probably go out and pick up pots and soil and ferts tomorrow, then I have to get the seeds from a friend and I'll be set to start. I'll add some pics of the empty grow room for now. Going to start setting things up tomorrow.

    The door is about 2' x 3', inside it's about 5' wide by 11' or 12' long by 4' high at the tallest, 2.5' or 3' in the middle (slants down to the floor). There's also another 7' by 5' around the corner. Pretty nice space if I say so myself (plan on doing some heavy LST so the height isn't a problem). One question though, it's VERY dusty in there. Is that going to be a problem at all (for the plants)? Should I vacuum or just leave it? I might do it just because it's annoying as hell.

    I think I'm going to try nailing some mylar to the ceiling and letting it drape down, then probably weighing it down on the ground (so the fans don't blow it around). Sound like a decent idea? I may have to build some kind of box so I can carbon scrub during flowering, but for now it should be fine. My roommates know I smoke in my room and I'm on the 3rd floor and it's usually just me in my room so the smell shouldn't be too much of a problem, should it?

    Anyways let me know your thoughts guys, I'll post more when I actually get something done :p.

    WEll done on the stelth set-up dude. I love the wall being removed to get to it.... I would put something across the hole as well like a dresser or something light...

    As for the dust.... Get it and anything else out of there. Yes, Vaccum the whole space, walls floor ceiling and everything else. I would even wash it out as well, you will be glad you put the effort in later on...

    GOod luck with it...

    What are you doing about venting and air in ???

    D-Dog: Thanks for the luck.

    Homergrower: Well around the corner (the extra 7' x 5' area) is another removeable wall that goes out in another little part of my room like 5' x 3', like a closet almost. But there's a window there that I set a little chair by, it's where I usually smoke (a little cramped but looks out on a busy street which I like). Fuck it I'll make a little drawing in paint, I'm bored. Anyways I'm going to vent out secret door #2 towards the window, may actually make an active intake of cold air from the window if things get too hot in the grow room. If you can't tell I'm a little anxious to get this started. Just wish I had more money so I could do things right. Oh and I just had a pretty good idea for something to cover up the door, a poster! Cheap and easy to move if I don't tape the bottom down.

    P.S. - Drawing is not to scale, just a general idea.

    That's a very nifty little room there aguy, seems almost made for growing. In terms of dust I'd agree with Homergrower, vacuum the shit out of it or its gonna be annoying and end up clogging up/dirtying any fans you use for airflow. How many plants are you planning on growing under those CFL's? If you want a fairly cost-effective HPS, head over to a home improvement store and pick up a 150 or 70 watt security light HPS. I just picked one up for my grow, the only thing you really have to do is rewire them, which isn't bad. If you don't want to go with the HPS way, I love to see what people can do with CFL's, so its all good. Hanging the mylar should be OK, just be very very careful not to tear it when you move it, I ended up having to do some patchwork on my first use of mylar because I tore it. Anyways, I like your set up, and I'll be pulling up a chair for this grow.

    Damn... that would be a COMPLETE waste of perfect grow room if you didnt grow.


    I wish you the best of luck with your grow, i will be checkin back in also.

    p.s.- KEEP THAT SHIT AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE! you dont want to be like 2 months into it, and have some dumb shit happen to your plants cuz you never cleaned up a little bit first.

    Pfmohr1: I'm probably going to germ six and hope for 2 or 3 females. I'm going all CFL, seen some people do some pretty crazy stuff with it and I've blown enough money already :p. Thanks for the compliments.

    DiAmOnD RaStA: Thanks for luck. Seems everyone thinks cleaning is the best idea so that's what I'll do as soon as I finish soldering these computer fans.

    I'll post pics once I get everything cleaned and set up (minus the bulbs, pots, and plants of course :().

    Well I figured something would go wrong, but not this early.
    Basically the friend who was giving me the seeds now thinks they're all useless, so now I need to find some new seeds. Never thought I'd have to go look for shwag :p Anyone know of any seeds I could get for like $10? Does drchronic have anything that cheap? Faster grow would be better but really I'll settle for anything. I don't want to spend much considering I'm no expert and might kill my plants.

    Well that's the situation for now, grow on hold. The room is pretty clean, nailed the insulation out of the way and started mock-setting up the mylar, but I've got a test tomorrow so I need to study and after that will probably be too blazed all day friday to do anything, so saturday or sunday I'll try to get some pics up.

    One last question, should I ask some friends up here if they have any seeds? You know, the old "they're for a friend" bit? Only 3 people know I plan on growing and I'd like to keep it that way. I don't trust these guys nearly as much, but they may have some seeds. Thoughts, comments, let me know.

    Better still plaster the walls & ceiling ;) makes it lightproof / smellproof / bugproof ;)

    Yeah i would just ask around your smokin buds and say that you and your buddies are trying to get up some seeds for another friend who wants to try to grow

    Looks good so far since you have such a nice place i would do it right with good vents and fix the ceiling. good luck though.

    Instead of asking everyone you know, just make sure your the one who breaks it up and packs it ;). That way no one knows whats up. Also, instead of plaster, use white or silver poasterboard.

    Num: A little more work than I was looking at doing, maybe if this turns out well I'll fix it up a bit more.

    DiAmOnD RaStA: I think I'm going to try that, if I can't get any in a couple days I might throw down for some KC NL or maybe KC36 from the doc. Also looking at some Nirvanas, maybe NLxBB I figure if I germ 4 and they don't work out I'll still have 6 to try again.

    Purilite: I actually did fix up the ceiling a bit, and since I'm in northern Minnesota I'm actually worried it may be too cold if anything.

    Anony: I'm actually going to cover the entire area (minus floorspace) in mylar. Pics hopefully by the end of the weekend.


    I'm going to see if anyone has some low mids or swag or basically anything cheap they want to sell so me and a roommate can make some brownies, so hopefully I'll get some seeds. As a last resort though I may end up buying them.
