I can only stand to drink two very similar alcoholic beverages. Amaretto and Frangelico. They're both Hazelnut Liqueurs with a very mild taste. I will on rare occasions have a sherry glass full of them and rather enjoy it. Usually once every five to ten years. Tonight I had a small sip of Amaretto that we've had for about twelve to fifteen years and it tastes divine. I like it much better aged than young. I'll have a small glass tomorrow night and then not until some special occasion much later on.
U might enjoy Sambuca too. I made a drink here the ladies enjoy a suncoast godfather, a tall collins glass full of ice, 1 1/2 oz coconut rum, 1/2 oz Amaretto, fill with OJ, splash of grenadine
I'm pretty sure when it comes to aging alcohol that mostly refers to how long it was originally aged in a barrel for and that sitting in the bottle for a long time doesn't really change that much. Your aging is probably the more significant factor in the equation.
Maybe it's oxidation then. The bottle was opened years and years ago, and a couple of times since. Maybe I just prefer oxidized Amaretto.
Oxidized maybe but alcohol is hydroscopic right so maybe water intrusion. Some of the whiskeys left open have had a more watery for taste. I forget the third ingredient but amaretto, probably a whiskey mixed into a granny smith cider... warm apple pie
First time making elderberry tinctures,my plants are 9 ft tall now, 2 yrs old. After 4-6 weeks it should be ready for consumption.
Didn't know aging made a difference once it's bottled but I can see how 12-15 would make a difference. With whiskey atleast the aging process is done in barrel. I'll never forget, when I was still drinking I worked in a high end liquor store in Chicago and sold a customer one of our Van Winkle bottles, they gifted me a bottle of Glenfiddich 30 year old scotch ($1300 bottle). I held onto it for a year or so and ended up drinking it straight out of the bottle out of desperation when I ran out of cheap vodka
& I'll bet it quickly became her favorite, just like my wifes coke & my very best bourbon. it's a good thing we love them.
