Affirmation. Affirmations. anyone have experience on this topic? to affirm, or not to affirm? discuss. (no fretting, i shall be back with more, you know i will. just getting it started)
In spirituality and personal development, an affirmation is a form of autosuggestion in which a statement of a desirable intention or condition of the world or the mind is deliberately meditated on and/or repeated in order to implant it in the mind. Affirmation could be viewed positively as a mobilization of one's inner resources, or negatively as a kind of self-induced brainwashing, depending on the psychological depth and wisdom of the affirmation. For example, "I am making more room in my life for success every day" is a much wiser affirmation than "I will win the lottery today!" Affirmations are always phrased in the first person and usually in a present tense ("I am") rather than a future tense ("I will") in order to increase the realization of the statement for the affirmee. Thats what an affirmation is. I guess believe in that, cant say i have any notable expierience with it however.
damn, what a mind job. not two days ago, this word suddenly popped into my conscious. i cant remember exacly what i was thinking about at the time but my train of thought after went along the lines of future planning and day by day progression. wow. sometimes, when these little coincedences occur, i simply laugh. other times it feels like sycronicity, then i simply smile.
thats why i find it such an interesting topic.... it's so fuzzy around the edges. other things i've heard about affirmations... affirmations work best in present tense. ie, NOW, as in imediate, already is. not soon, not at such and such time, but now. affirmations are at their most potent when said only once (or at least just once in any day) affirmations should be set in only the possitive. (this is great practice for banishing unecessary negativity) affirmations best work when they are personal, as in, "I", because you cannot go around affirming things for other people directly. besides "now", which is also a very powerful hypnotic trigger word, there are a few other words and concepts which add to their effectiveness and make it easier to navigate around doing affirmations. accept. allow. I AM... just like that spark of creator in you, I am, can be as powerful a message to your subconcious as it was to moses when he was off burning bushes. however, thats all fine and well, but this thread aint here just to be like any other website claiming to hold some kind of scientifically backed form of empowered salvation, no, this is to be an openly explorative discussion. I've also heard that to "spiritually" evolve, one enters a state in which there is no affirmation, no affirmation is required, and to attempt to affirm something is defeating of yet higher purpose. I should also bring up the concept of "Grocking". A new word to me, but not a new concept. To Grock, is much like affirming and other techniques designed to assist personal control over co-creation, except with grocking, its not just personal, not just things in your life, it's far bigger and grander than that. its like doing that, but for all. Consider it, projecting a future, like laying down a road you're on where you want, or selecting a future from the infinate potentials and rather than just magnetizing yourself to it, energising it. putting thought energy towards intended ideals. if others are bringing that about too, then all the more likely. "thank god for the unanswered prayer"... for when we fuck up and let our minds veer wildly off the reigns. and so, it's a pretty safe practice. or something like that.
Just a thought - although at the midway point of the journey to enlightenment the idea is to understand and affirm your true nature in the ultimate sense; towards the end, affirmations and statements concerning personality and reality are dropped entirely. This is a state of knowing un-knowingness, allowing complete mental freedom and realisation. MelT
i always loved the idea - but never get into cus i really beleive that my life will lead where it needs to. not that i am an unwilling participant - quite the opposite. i beleive i am or have already created my destiny. i have never had anything in my life that i look back after a significant amount of time and regret. even my current period of unemployment - although unpleasant and inconveniant - serves a purpose. i am reading, researching, and writing more than i could if i were working - and when i've come to a certain point in these endeavors i'll find a job. ultimately - when i see the truth and result of all the things in my life they turn out to fit perfectly in my overall belifs of the world. when i was younger i thought it was just because i was smarter or more intuitive than other ppl - but now i think it's just because i have designed my life myself, therefore it would fit in with what i beleive. like deja vu - i sometimes feel at the significant points in my life more like i am remembering things i forgot and think "how could i forget that?" things tend to come to a point where i feel silly for beleiving they could have ended otherwise, and even when i don't like the ending - i ultimately see that it is for the best.
