Aerogarden LED Germination

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by GreenQueen123, Mar 3, 2016.

  1. I just started my first grow in an Aerogarden and have read many articles about lighting, nutes, ventilation, air pump, etc.

I placed the seed in the grow sponge about half way down, dome lid on, distilled water only. I am not sure what the pump setting should be for the germination process. It's set at 10min, 660min off. The lighting is 18hour on, 6 off.

Can anyone give me some advice please?

  2. Any pics GQ? The lighting time is good. Are you using air along with the drip?
I have a seed that just popped in aerogarden then will move to bucket to get large.

  3. Hi there! Thanks for the reply. Pictures are soon to come. I have an air stone in the res, but wasn't sure when to turn it on. Should it be on 24/7 during germination? I'm on day 5 now and nothing has sprouted yet.

  4. Yes Air on 24/7.
When you uncover dome is sponge dry?
Try moving it around to other slots.
Maybe where it's most bubbly underneath it.
Is the water drip pump on?
    I disabled mine. Only air.

  5. The sponge is moist and seems like the bottom 1in or so is submerged in the water. I planted the seed about half way down the sponge.

I just turned on the air stone 24/7 and disabled the aerogarden pump. It was set at 10min on, 660min off.

Hopefully they are just late sprouters. I've read it can take 2-7 days and sometimes up to 2weeks to sprout.

  6. Ok then that's perfect. I have one now that's also late. I noticed if nothing happens in few days I rotate and move them around. Make sure to cover the other slots so no light gets in.
How many do you have growing? Are you moving any of them to larger buckets or other system?
What is the size of the res? Mine are the older models. 7 ports deluxe and elite.
    Also 6's and 3's.
I rarely use them but one now to get things started. Clones and new seeds.
One plant can get very large. Will need daily care though. It was a pain in the ass I recall. But in the end it produced nicely and the quality was great.

  7. Really appreciate these pointers - thank you!

I've got 2 seeds planted at opposite ends. I have a newer model of the Aerogarden with 9 ports and stronger LED light. The res is about 1.33 gallons. Actually added another air stone today - 1 under each plant. Since space is limited, I plan to hopefully have a successful grow in the Aerogarden.

I checked the sponges yesterday.. The one is showing a tap root, the other has done nothing :( I put a new seed in a cup of water which already is showing a tap root. I might transfer it to the songe with the seed that hasn't done anything. We shall see what happens. I'll keep updating this thread as I progress. I want to help others be successful as you are helping me!

  8. No problem glad to help. The new aeros are nice.
Adding another stone/air to each should speed things up. Are you using stock aero nutes & feeding schedule?
It will work for veg, but for flowering the plants will do better with any quality nutes. I suggest liquid based and gentle strength.
If you have another sponge and dome, perhaps leave the unpopped and add a 3rd?. Or fish it out before adding the new to prevent possible issues later as they grow.
They will get big, be prepared for the overhead. I would add a gentle breeze of fresh air

  9. I'm using micro/veg/bloom nutes. But haven't used any yet bc nothing has sprouted. Slowly losing hope :(
