Aerogarden germination

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by K.a.h.86, Oct 19, 2020.

  1. Searched the forum for this specific subject and didn't come up with any results. Google wasn't much help either. I have a 9 pod aerogarden that I figured would be appropriate for a first time grow. I didnt have any blank pods when I first decided to try and germinate seeds. I wasn't thinking about putting them in there when I first decided to try and germinate them. Anyway, I picked out some decent looking seeds that didnt appear to have any damage to them and put them in a couple of wet blue shop towels. I put the paper towel in a gallon size zip loc bag with a bunch of little air holes cut into the top and set it on top of my coffee maker with a barrier between the paper towel and the coffee maker because I was afraid it would get too hot. I them covered the top with an opaque piece of paper and draped a dark shirt over the top.
Its been a couple of days and a few of them have cracked open slightly and I think I can see what will become a root in there. My question is, can i transfer these seeds to the aerogarden right now or is that a bad idea? I've been doing a ton of research on nutrients and such, and it turns out that I have all of them already for our vegetable garden and flower beds. I'm just confused and to whether or not I can transfer the seeds before they've finished germinating. From what I was able to find, they tend to have better chances of germinating in there but I havent seen anything about transferring them from paper towel to aerogarden pod.

  2. All my seedlings I put in soil after the seed opens and develops tap root.
Then after the plant is about 6 inches tall i transplant into 3 in basket and put clay balls in and around the the plants root system and and place basket into hydroponic system .

I got rid of my Aeroponic system , had some inherent issues .
switch to 20 to 30 gallon bubblier tubs .

  3. I dont really have the space for anything beyond a small grow tent. I figured I'd give it a shot since i already have the aerogarden and am kindof broke

  4. Idk why i thought it was a 9 pod one. I planned to get a grow tent in a few weeks maybe. I figured maybe i could fit a couple of small plants in this thing up until they are about to outgrow it. And i found some affordable grow lights to go with the one here (which is detachable) IMG_20201019_133337655_HDR.jpg

  5. Hi
your going to harvest in that container ?
Looks like two plant max Autoflowering strain only
    and need more light

  6. I planned to transfer it while it's still small enough and put it in a small grow tent with this light plus some extra. I want to wait until i know if anything is gonna possibly survive before i spend money on anything else though.

  8. The more I'm reading, the more I'm thinking maybe I should just grow it in soil. Seems like maybe it would be the easiest way to go for a first timer.

  9. Its 6 weeks max normal grow time for either Sativa or Indica strains in VEG .
Most Hydroponic growers grow their plants in veg cycle for 4 weeks .
Auto flowering plants are 4 to 5 week in veg ........then they flower on their own ..
Most cheap LED grow lights are a waist of money ..watt for actual watt and the cheap LED grow lights use more energy its just a waist of money for the best bang for the buck in the long run IMO is The Sung Quantum Bards or buy the what I consider The Samsung knock off lights from china ( Alibaba ) and From what other members say the Kingbrite is the company to get them from.
I buy from HLG ( Horticulture Lighting Group )
I like the Samsung 288 R spec boards or the QB 96 boards .
A good number is you need 30 to 50 actual watts per square foot of grow space .
My mars 300 watt grow lights AKA as a blurple because the color of the light advertises its a 300w equal to a 300 watt HPS or MH grow lights .
IMO that is a total line of BS .
My mars light 300 watt is actually 111 watts ........and you need 50 watts of blurple lighting per square foot of grow space .
Hey the which grow light to use is very debatable and at times seems more like religion then based on science .
Run a thread in the lighting section you need to post grow room square footage and whats your ventilation situation .
If you dont have much ventilation then certain grow lights are out .....
    Best of luck grasshopper

  10. Well you already have a Hydroponic system why not put at least one plant in it .
Hydroponics is a accelerated growth .
    I am not a dirt/compost grower .
you can always run some threads on which kind of grow you want to do .
They say Hydroponic growing is the most technical and requires the most amount of time .
But i had a friend who said if I listened to only him he promised me a harvest ..
Been growing in water for 3 years now .
    party on .

  11. You need to plant them and weed out the males.
I normalluy have one female mother plant and clone off her .
Keep the mother plant in veg ....................

  12. So to clarify, do i avoid letting it flower in the first place before i try to take clones?

  13. Mother plant is for cloning only .
you always keep your mother plant in veg cycle .
its not good to clone off a clone off a clone off a clone .
Thats why you have a mother plant that is from a seed .

  14. QB288 V2 Rspec Quantum Board

is this what you're talking about?

  15. The QB 288 R spec boards are what have .
I have 5 sets of four QB 288 boards and the QB 288 R spec boards . From HLG
    I power mine with 240 AC ,

  16. I just wish they were a little cheaper. I didnt know lighting cost ao much til i got it in my head to grow. I always got it through my dad who had multiple connects but i dont really want to approach these people that i dont know and really don't want to know to obtain anything. My dad passed away in december of 2018 and he had just bought an oz 2 days prior. So thats the last i have had. I dont know anyone and have basically no friends that live anywhere remotely close so growing seemed like the best bet. As it is now, im in the shopping stage for pretty much everything. I know which tent im going to use and i have almost decided on seeds, but im still looking around for lights and ventilation. And since i cant afford to buy all these things at once, im gonna have to buy one "must have" at a time.

I dont love the idea of spending almost $100 on lights. Honestly it could end up making me want to do away with the whole idea. Since i have plenty of time to decide on things, i would really really like to not have to spend so much money on everything.

I had no idea it was this expensive to set up a stealthy grow tent. Because i definitely need equipment to scrub the smell and preferably not kill my plant.
