ADvice on temps

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Gotalighter?, Oct 19, 2011.

  1. Ok i have read the stickies but am having issues deciding what to do... I have a 2x2' grow box running 9 32 watt cfls. I ran them for 24 hours ( wont happen during real grow...18/6 is the plan. anyway after 24 hours of running the temps of the box were hitting mid 90's. how much circulation should i add? thinking passive intake and a computer fan for output? needs to be stealthy and not be super noticeable from the outside...thinking mount the fans on inside facing out and just a hole on the top ( will be hidden by a flower vase on top with fake flowers etc but theres no bottom so hot air rises out the hole and top of flower vase but just looks like plastic flowers chilling) would this be enough? or should i look into a slightly larger fan? advice?

  2. Only one comp fan will not take the temps down to where you want them, look at the hydrostore pc fans that have a plug, there' some that have 100 cfm for only 30 bucks. But try and get an oscilating fan in there with it blowing up and to the plants while moving. Also your intake should be near the bottom, idk if you have this already. Have you thought about what you are going to do with smell? I'm gettin the feeling your shooting for stealth and there's no such thing as stealth with a grow op that doesn't have an odor filtration

  3. smells not a issue, long story short i have a room in my house that always smells like weed anyways...everyone who visits is used to it smelling in there. and the box looks like a dresser, i keep all my smoking shit on top. the room itself is sealed off from the rest of the house so that it does not reak the place up cause i bought the house off the rents and when they owned it i needed a room to smoke in that would not affect them ( my family is perfectly fine with my smoking and my mom knows and supports my growing cause she does not like me spending money on it, dad grew for years yada yada yada but the smell gives her headaches i guess.)

sorry for that wall of text...
    Tl;DR smell doesnt matter.

i will go down to my local hydro store and look into the fan you suggested. i have the room for a oscilating fan so ill try and find a small one i could fit... i used to have one that would clip onto my bed and blow cool air on you while you slept...if i fidn that thats perfect.

Would it not be more effecient to put the outake on the top of the box and the intake on the side? hot air rises so it will rise out on its own plus be pushed out with the fan blowing.

  4. sounds like a plan, man.

definately go w/ the passive intake and the fan.

I had a grow box that was around the same size w/ CFL's and i used one of those 4" duct fans from home depot.
i ran it out the top like a chimney, and it worked great.
i cut a 4"x4" pasive in each side and at the back towards the bottom of the box.

then taped some carbon prefilter over the holes to keep out dust and to keep the light from escaping.

that 4" fan is pretty quiet.. maybe more so than a comp fan... but it's bigger and maybe tougher to hide.
but i guess they make pretty big comp fans, like 4" too? so that may work as well.

    GL man :)

  5. The smell of a grow smells nothing like smoking weed. It smells like something is growing, and most people can pick that out.

Just build a carbon filter, you can do so for under 50 bucks if you're crafty.

  6. Idk, the smell is much more stong then mj smoke, how do you have the room sealed off? Is there any intake for the room so you'll have fresh air? But like aw said get a duct fan or the pc fan I told you about, the norml pc fans you pull of an old comp prob wont be enough to cool 9 32w cfls. I know this is kind of off topic but there's some realy cool diy cfl fixtures out there, I made one similar to this. Here's the link

  7. AWESOME! thank you so much, i have room to mount a fan without it interfering with the lights and plant space so i will take a trip to home depot to see about some fans and looks like ill be busting out the saw again:hello::wave:
would that carbon screen help with smell just wondering? definatly a good solution for the light prob so just curious.

theres a window. by sealed i meant no smoke or smell goes inside the rest of the house but can escape through the window. i used REALLY thick weather stripping for the sides of the door, for the top and bottom of door its kind of like a rubber flap, it meets with a piece of rubber on the floor and roof when the door is closed and this creates a seal that prevents smell from escaping that way. the heater vents closed. i have done some serious sessions in there and been fine with smell. parents could only tell when i opened the door up and for about five minutes afterwards :p and how much smell would 2 or 3 plants smell in a box thats also sealed to the world? going to do a scrog so thinking two plants is perfect.

thats a sweet fixture actually! mine is three fixtures each with three light sockets that have magnets attached. the walls inside the box have a metal plate on the inside of all the walls thats covered with mylar. the lights mount on these :p so theres three light bulbs coming from three of the walls ( back and sides, none on door or roof...yet;):hello: ) and they are fully adjustable up till the frame gets in the way. so like two inches from the bottom maybe. if the carbon thing august suggest does not do much for smell i may build somethiing like that but also is a working carbon filter.

  8. Decided i will just build a carbon filter:hello: easier just to play it safe than regret it later:wave: gonna go to home depot tommorow after payday and see whats up with the fan AW suggested

  9. Question about that fan, how is it wired? Is it ready to plug or will i need to say get my old power regulator out to control the current to it? or does it run at house voltages? could i just solder it to a extension cord wrap up really well with electrical tape? or is there a trick?

Edit, also have a old pc power supply that is labeled and i could just wire the fan to the currect amount of current on that if that would work?
