I think I need a psychiatrist but have not a clue on how to pick one other than randomly picking a phone book ad.
    Any advice?
    I am non insured.

  2. i always thought they were over rated, you hold all the answers to you're life, emotions, worries and wishes.

  3. I find the average cost around the midwest to be 100ish an hour (visit).

Picking out the right one can take a few tries, I am getting ready to change again due to a lack of progress and Rx mistakes (per my families advice).

try one, and see how you feel...if uncomfortable, try another

  4. totally agreed, just sometimes we need a catalyst to help us find those answers.

a good shrink will not charge you for the first appt. they will recognize that you are "shopping" so to speak for a good doctor.

try a google search for mental health professionals in ur area. also, is it a psychiatrist you are looking for or a psychologist/social worker? there are lots of websites that host doctors and counselors information/costs/specialties, etc.

  5. my regular Dr. recommended me to my psychiatrist
