Advice for climate control in 4x4

  1. Hello hello

I have a 400 something cfm inline fan without control that is in my 4x4.

It does not exchange air enough. Heat goes too high.

I am reaching out to you to please share your experiences with good inline fans and control setups, who might include control over other features in the tent.

I am looking at various controllers, such as inline fan temp and humidity, and those that control more factors.

Have been considering ac infinity cloudline t8
    Or max fan can fan.

    Any experiences to share?

  2. I feel like a 400 cfm fan would be plenty for a 4x4, what’s ur intake , where is the exhaust vented inside or outside, that fan u got linked looks pretty nice, I just got the vivio sun 6” combo, temps are ok but working on piping it out of the house, I just have it recirculating into the space

  3. It should be enough yea. But its a lot of turns on the ducting the two meters its going to the Window. Could improve that part. After i switched to a smaller coal filter temps went even more up. I have two passive air intakes at the lower part of the tent.

There is three 240 w lights and two oscillating fans(20w)

Someone mentioned somewhere that the t8 on lowest setting sucked in the walls of their 5x5..so I dunno..now i am thinking i should at least add more power to the outdraw and get some kind of controller in there..

  4. Ah, you got 720w running, that explains quite a bit, that’s a good amount of light for a 4x4 and will definitely produce some heat. Your exhaust is a 6” I imagine if it’s running 400cfm? The twists and turns will eat up a lot of the airflow I would think
I had the same problem back when I was running my 5x5 with a 4” exhaust using flex dryer ducting type stuff, I switched everything to solid drain pipe and still had to upgrade to 6”, the solid pipe made a world of difference for me
Kinda in a similar situation now, I have a 6” fan/filter combo but need to put a reducer and run out the building 4”, anyway, best of luck

  5. Thanks man ! All it takes to move my spirits a little bit and makes me more determined to fix this :) too bad my bank account does not agree with me yet.

Great input anyways. Its an old house and in the attic. I am trying my best to keep temps acceptable there but but. :)

  6. You want BIG carbon filters. I have a 10''x39'' fan mated to my 8'' fan. The fan never needs to run more than 50% to keep temps where i want them and the duct work is pretty long with a 180 turn and a 90 turn. Part of your problem is likely that you vent out a window.... Any air you push out of your house has to be replaced. That means outside air getting sucked in around every crack around every door/window. I vent my tent to the basement where it can flow through the basement and back up the open staircase. AC infinity fans are a "mix flow" style fan and they are not capable of overcoming much drag from filters, long bendy duct work, and pushing air outside of a house. Vortex VTX series fans are the best. 10 year warranty, they stand behind their shit. 5x5 tent, 1100w.

Variac voltage controller (speed control) I have this plugged into a power meter so i know max is 300 watts, 150 watts is 50%. Usually i run around 100w. variac.jpg

This is a comparison of the "mix flow" style fans to a proper centrifugal style VTX series fan.

Static pressure is the amount of "drag" (filters, duct work, etc) once a mixflow fan hits a certain amount of drag, they sort of "stall out" and no matter how high you crank them up, they dont move any more air. VTX800.JPG
The VTX is able to overcome double the static pressure of the mixflow style fans.

  7. Thanks for your input, I was not aware of this with ac infinity. That might be a problem yes. Nice graphics.

I will check out vortex. Looks loud

  8. With a speed controller they are extremely quiet. An 8'' fan @ 50% is almost silent and will move just as much air as a 6'' @ 100% which will sound like a jet engine.

  9. My 4x4 sorts itself out, it's that wide and tall.

Now my 2x2 is sweaty as fuck, RH coming in at 65!!!!

  10. If you have a powerful enough light and are filling it out, there is no way it "sorts itself out"

  11. If it would sort itself out with my 720 w of led i would be most surprised that my Wallet is not endangered anymore.

Hey joe! Reading up on vortex. Looks good. Their s line looks appropriate as well..? Any comments ?

I will ask them if their product is available in 220-240 v. An extra converter to make it work is something i would like to avoid

  12. No, s line is just like the ac infinity fans, not good at pulling air through filter/pushing it long distances.

  13. Yes. I see you use a speed controller. Does that mean you will have to manually adjust ? I guess you monitor your room and stay alert then?

  14. Its kind of set it and forget it. The house is climate controlled and eventually all the house air cycles the grow room.

  15. Allright, sounds like your ventilation is good then, Nice :)

Vortex looks awesome. My Nation slams 25percent tax on things bought from other countries so they make it expensive. On top of shipping and customs.

Too bad its in canada. Looks like a very good product
