adding nutrients and ph plummets?

  1. so im running a compact hydro system. im using floranova grow but anytime i switch the res the ph absolutley plummets. i just started a batch and i am worried that when i correct the ph of the nutrient solution with base that it will kill my seedlings. i would have to add quite a bit of ph up to bring it out of the 4s to a 5.8. is there any natural way to raise it?

  2. Try using less fertilizer when you're making the nutrient solution. I suspect that your making it to strong to begin with. What's the pH and PPM of your water source? Fertilizer has pH buffers in it so it will lower the pH of your water regardless of where you get it from and if the pH of your water is already acidic to begin with, fertilizer will lower it even further.

  3. well the first batch i mixed was 1/4 strength. the second was full ppm for first 360 4.9 second was 1400 4.2. im using the GH floranova line and distilled water. should i just use tap water? its hard water and im not sure how the dissolved solids would interact with the nutrients as well as the plant...

  4. I always have to add 1\2ml of PH up per gallon of RO water mixing 7 & 14ml micro\bloom per gallon.

  5. how old are the 'seedlings'?

No nutes for the first 10-14 days, then start with 1/4 strength. Don't increase the nutes until the plants ask for it. They'll start to get a lighter green when they're hungry, and then bump the nutes to 1/2 strength.

    Good luck! :smoke:
    Doin'

  6. I am lucky here in michigan are city water is almost 8.0 ph i litterally add the food and still have to add Acid to the water to bring it down to a 5.5 ph. Its funny my daughter thinks its a magic trick i do with my ph tester turning it from green to yellow to orange lol.

  7. are you adding a micro? if so be sure to add that first. on a side note botanicare hydroplex dropped my 7.2 h2o to a 3.3 every time

  8. yes and no im using floranovagrow. its a one step mix of liquid and dry. i do know it has a micro for root growth in it...
