Adding light for outdoor?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by lilredrice, May 18, 2018.

  1. I have never done this before, but was wondering if I add supplement light for my 2 outdoor plant with the 14+hr. Of natural sunlight. Once I turn off the supplement light in the end of June will it flower thinking the light has decreased?
If it work that way. I would rather add supplement light instead of force flowering it with black out tarp or plastic. 0518180542-1.jpg

  5. Hi rice, unfortunately it does not work that way outside. The amount of light gained outside is waaaaaay greater than most people might think. The plants know this and change their clocks to match nature’s light and dark phases. So your plants won’t flower until the end of fall unfortunately. Even if you use those lights.

Mostly because any supplemental light you might add outside would be negligible compared to the ambient natural light from the sun. Even on a cloudy day, the plants are getting a lot of light. Just think about how many light bulbs you might need to light up a park on a cloudy day? Even though the sun isn’t shining, you would need a SHIT TON of bulbs burning to provide comparable light levels. I’ve heard of people starting veg indoors under 24 hours of artificial light (need 24 hours cause the light isn’t as intense as the sun), before moving them outdoors so that it mimics half day light cycles. But I don’t know how well that works..

  6. Thanks! No wonder I haven't seen anyone tried it. I will just turn off the light to match the natural sunlight and do a light dept by July for a earlier harvest instead. Thanks for the comment.
