Adding CFL to HPS

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by Apps, Feb 20, 2019.

  1. Got a 2x2 room and I'm thinking about adding a 125w 4k CFL to my HPS in there.

I ran one grow and the yield wasn't great, 9 plants on one 600w HPS, thinking it may be the airflow that's an issue.

I might add another 600w HPS in there so I've got 1200w... Its on a digital ballast so I can lower if needs be, going to play about with extraction, airflow etc to see if I can have 2 with the heat.

Anyway back to the original reason of my post. ..My thinking is by adding a 4k light would give more spectrum and watts without extra heat.

    Options are...

    2 hps @ 1200w
    1 hps + 4k CFL @ 725w
    2 hps + 4k CFL @ 1325w

More watts the better no? Depending on heat and airflow or would the CFL be pointless?

O yeah, 1 hps is dual spectrum and 1 isn't.

    Opinions please

  2. I believe those cfl’s will prove to be pointless if their not basically sitting on the plant.. imo adding hps with some leds is a good thing but adding hps with some cfl’s is pointless cause of their very low range of reach..

  3. You only have a 2x2 room right? For flowering you would only need 320 max watts. You sure you don't mean 4x4? 2x 600 watts would be a lot of heat, wasted light, and even with c02 is overkill. They can only take so much light before diminishing returns. The ideal amount of light without c02 is 30-40 watts per square-foot.

It sounds like there are more issues with your grow than your lights.

    Room size?
    Ventilation? Fans, intake, exhaust, etc
    Medium?
    Grow system?
    Strain?
    Nutrients?

  4. 2x2 metres mate... I think 2 600w HPS will bt too much heat so I'm at a loss as to how to get more light without too much hear... 315's would be an option but they are a bit pricey
