Activated carbon

  1. Hey so I will be building a small carbon filter for my pc grow box. I bought the only carbon I could find at a pet store. It's in a mesh type thing, shown in the picture pop can for reference on size.

Should I just leave it like that and duct tape it on my exhaust fan or do something more creative with it? I wanted to make the diy pen case filter but could not find any mesh pen cases.

  2. Yea, if you duct taped it on there good enough, you wouldnt need to build a little contraption. However, I have seen that with carbon filters you should add a pre-filter to it, like a little piece of foam or something that you can replace/clean on a monthly basis. This prefilter is almost necessary because if you get any physical particles in your carbon mix then they can clog the outside pore of the carbon, leaving unused carbon trapped inside, thus reducing it's life and effectiveness. Remember that water also can absorb in the carbon, so keep an eye on humidity and try not to get it wet.
