Hi, I had a look at some carbon filters, but found them a bit pricey. I reckon I can make my own easily enough, but I need some granulated, activated carbon. They make it right near my town, but it comes in 20kg/ 65L bags at about USD $100! Firstly, am I going to need that much for a 2 plant closet? If not, can anyone think of places I might be able to try that use GAC and might sell me maybe 10L? Tressie.
Thanks again, Dewave. That guy is cheap and sells exactly what I want. Unfortunately I'm in Oz and he doesn't ship that far, but the ad's given me some ideas of where to look locally. Hmm...water purification replacement supplies. Tressie.
Check out pet stores as well, they use that stuff for aquariums. That $100 is cheap though, I just ordered some online and it was $18 for 3.5L + tax + shipping.
Thanks RobsGreen. The guy at the local hydroponics shop told me about the aquarium suppliers selling granulated activated carbon just today. He seemed to think that was a pricey way of going about it due to the smaller quantities that they sell. The hydroponics guy also told me that scuba diving shops use GAC to filter compressed air that they fill dive tanks with. Apparently they go through quite a lot of it themselves, so I'll be checking out one or two of those as well. Thanks again. Tressie.
