accidentally vaporized?..

Discussion in 'Experienced Cannabis Enthusiasts' started by allsmokedank, Dec 1, 2006.

  1. so im raeal stoned and i just thought of somthing.
vaporizers normally heat the bud to about 180 F.. (according to wikipedia)
so what if you like leave your bag in your car in the middle of summer, in the desert(long shot i know, but maybe idk, you are at the dunes riding dirtbikes.

i don't know how hot it gets in there, but ya think it could heat up enough to actually vaporize the thc in your buds?

its a rather impracticle theory, but still, under these conditions, you think its possible?

through searching google, i havn't been able to find a precise temperature that thc goes at, but i think i remember hearing somwhere around 155F,

im not experienced with vaporizing, but just a thought.

  2. I believe its almost impossible for a car on a sunny day to reach temperatures that high. People have tested to see how hot it would get before.
i suppose if it were in direct sunglight all day, in death valley or the like its possible, but as far as i know its very unlikely to happen.
also, assuming the bud is in a container of some sort, im not sure if it would have any real effect on the thc content. Because it would likely be condensing quickly.

  3. I think that activation temp and vaporization temps are different. so it might actuvate the THC ut not vaproze it.

    Probably wrong though.

  4. haha, yeha i really have no clue, my mind just kinda wanders and does its own thing when im high haha

  5. i heat my vaporizer to 175C to vape, so im guessing nothing would happen

  6. Maybe if you put it in a jar with a big magnifying lens on the top. I used to have a thing about burning bits of paper with magnifying lenses when I was a kid, and that's around 400 degrees or something. I'm pretty stoned, but this sounds feasible to me! :D

When you get back from dirtbiking, just open the jar.

  7. its gotta be Celsius

because i cook weed at around 330F

  8. i wrote a paper on marijuana in school, and i remember reading somewhere the activation temperature of thc is around 107 degrees F. for vaporization, i think that would be around the same, as the flame on a bic is no where nearly as warm as a vaporizer, and you are just burning the plant matter with a bic. just my thoughts on that though....sorry:smoking:

  9. what?

So the flame of a bic isnt hotter than 107 degrees?

what grade did you get on this paper?

Also, THC isnt "activated" by heat. Its transferred.

To the OP: Given the above^ temperature, you're absolutely not going to have any perceptable loss in potency if you leave your herb in a hot car. Dont worry about that.

Light, Heat, and Air all degrade THC, but theres no way that a few hours of sitting out is going to make much of a difference, if any.

  10. Just wanted to clarify a couple more things.

Like i said above. The boiling point is 316*F, but transfer does begin at significantly lower temperatures (which is why you can make cannabutter with boiling water).

THC is actually "activated" through a process called Decarboxylization This process begins when the plant is harvested. Once the plant has been dried and cured, its done workin its magic and is ready to get you bombed. :smoking:

  11. nah man, i wouldnt worry about that shit, i would think it would have to be hella hot in the container for the thc to vape, probably would melt the bag in the process.

  12. ya theres nothing to worry about really unless ur leaving ur bud in a glass jar on ur dash.... the bends in the jar would concentrate the light and heat and could even burn ur herb, imagine coming back to a hotboxed car! lmao

  13. I misunderstood.
I thought you wanted to use the car as a giant vapourizer. :p
    Would be a helluva hit.
