Hi all, I want to purchase a turnkey grow box. One that I can afford. My budget is about $700. I don't know a good website or anything about growing. I am tired of paying such high prices for my medication. I want to yield about 4 ounces a month. So I am guessing that is about 4 plants. Thanks for your help. Check sites like amazon, greners, htgsupply and ehydroponics to view prices and reviews about products. Research research research. Not sure where you are getting 1 ounze a month since autoflowers take approx 10 weeks and photoperiod approx 14 weeks, dependent on strain of course.
700 is a lot of money and if you just want 4 oz a month you only need to spend half that. I suggest a 600w dimmable HPS ballast set on 400watts for now have it in a grow tent of about 3'x3' and as tall as you can have it. If you have room for a 4'x4' that's even better. Or a 3'x4' if you wanted, there are many sizes out there. A 400w HPS will give you about 8-12oz every 3 months. But if you switch the ballast up to 600w you can get 15-20oz. These figures are very generalised and many other factors come in to play, but the light size is the main one. You will need an exhaust fan, a good quality 6" inline fan will do nicely. Are you planning on growing in soil or hydro?
I read that going soil for your first time grow was safer than going hydro, so I was planning on going soil. Plus if you go hydro I assume you start from seeds. I would rather start from clones only because I think get are easier to get. Thanks for your help!! I am truly new to this so any help is appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
I am a soil grower. Read up on the organic forums about making a great soil mix. "easy organic soil mix for beginners". Great thread. Once you get a good mixed/cycled soil, all you gotta do is water your plants.... With water. No chemicals or expensive bottled nutrients and you can reuse your soil. Read up on no till/living organic soil
In my opinion hydro is much easier than soil because the two most common soil grow problems are over watering and overdosing with nutrients. This won't happen in hydro as long as you have a descent air pump and an EC/ppm meter. But if you are familiar with growing plants in soil already then soil may be the simpler option to start with. If you have no experience with any plants then I recommend hydro because it's less guesswork when it comes to nutrient strengths and watering times
To be honest all of this is new to me. I have never grown anything. I have have been googling every term you guys use. I have room for a 4x4 grow tent. I plan to set it up in my garage. Thanks again!! Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
A 4'x4' tent is a great size, you will definitely hit your 4oz per month goal if you use a 600w HPS. If you are unfamiliar with growing plants completely, I mean not even house plants or tomatoes or anything I would go with hydro. There is less grower intuition needed as you use a meter to measure nutrient values and you don't have to worry about watering on THE specific day that the soil demands
Ha!! I have cactus no watering required. As I live in SoCal and try too conserve water. I have grown tomatoes but all I did was throw water on them every couple of days. So yes my experience is lacking. I am just tired of paying $10 a gram for so so meds wen I know I can do better. So I decided to grow. My only issue with hydroponics is starting from seeds. I could drive to LA and get seeds but that would be a pain. Is there a way to get clones for hydro grow? I have never seen them. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
I don't know about the laws in your country so I can't help much there. In my country clones are illegal and seeds are legal. I get my seeds from https://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk Soil and hydro both have their advantages. The main hydro disadvantage is noise, air pumps bubbling away is pretty noisy. I would say that is the only drawback to hydro
Am I on the right track that this would do the job. Seems to come with all the equipment. http://m.ebay.com/itm/161010419537?cmd=VIDESC&gxo=true In the US it all depends on the state you live in. Some states sadly nothing is legal and some states like Colorado and Washington all is legal. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Just wondering would a 90w Led be enough in a 46 inch grow closet? Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
The tent is fine, the fan is crap, the light is ok, but not dimmable. Having a dimmable ballast gives you options when/if the temperature gets too hot and when plants are very small and it would be a waste giving them 600 watts. I can't see a price but I suspect you can buy it all separately for less. Usually starter kits are over priced. They also always come with stuff you don't need and are missing stuff you do . Why not just buy all the things you need? No, not even close. You would need 16 of them, one for each square foot. And even then yields wouldn't be great
