  1. Thans for looking.

I just set up my 1st ever grow, germinated a couple of seeds. 1 sprouted, the other didnt. The one which sprouted grew to about 4cm then its leaves just turned yellow and it hasnt grown anymore. The soil i was using was not very good, so i have brought some organic compost to give that ago.

I am using a grow tent, 90w led ufo with a 125 cfl to give it an extra boost. I am germinating some more seeds as i speak, but have no idea why the first plant is effectively dieing. Any advise and help would be muchly appreciated.

  2. Please can someone help me. Does anyone know a really good grow guid from start to finish? Ive been on forums for so long but quite a few peoples ideas contradict each other. Once the seeds have germinated i will place them in soil and cover with clingfilm till they have sprouted. Does this sound about right? like i said my 1st plant did grow throught this stage, just trying to work out where i went wrong

  3. "Grow Marijuana Now" was a pretty good step by step book that got me started with a base of knowledge that I built on exploring these forums. I still have tons to learn and have yet to plant a clone. I like to know everything about something before I start. But that's just me...

  4. Thanks for your reply. Very must appreciated. i will look into getting a copy of that book. I am the same, spent hours reading up but it was only when i actually came to growing found out that i still have a LOT to learn!

  5. There is a ton to learn, for sure. And the experienced growers will tell you that they still learn shit all the time.

  6. could be that your soil is a bit too dense for proper aeration, same effect from overwatering (asphyxiation)

Whatever you use, I'd add perlite or pumice to it. If you mix up 20 liters of dirt and compost, add 5 liters of aeration amendment.

  7. Thanks you for your reply. That has crossed my mind actually. But will definitly look into now you have said it. Would lime do the same job? as i already have some of that.

    Thanks again

  8. Lime is great and I add it to every mix, but it won't help aeration. :smoke:

  9. Ok wicked, ill have to get my hands on some perlite then! Thanks for your help.

  10. Something else i am wondering is if maybe my tent was too hot for the first plant? its always quite warm in there, 30 - 31 c. Would that be to hot? Im going to start from scatch again and take all the advise i can!!

  11. 30-31 isn't the end of the world, but that's pretty warm

unfortunately, that's what I'm seeing right now with the closet door closet, problem is the air outside is 26f, so even tho I'm only warming up 4-5 C, it's still right at that level :(

Supposed to cool down soon, hopefully it gets nice and cold before I put the next batch into flower

  12. Grim your having a similar problem dude. I need to leave the front of the tent open really, but then light will escape. I'm going to try and make do with this grow I think, well atleast see how far I get. Its not even that hot where I am, the tent is in the airing cupboard though so that can't help. Good luck with your grow. Let us know if you discover any methods for cooling down!

  13. Actually, it doesn't matter much if I open the door or leave it closet. Problem is, it's warm, and no matter how much airflowe etc you have, you're still going to be something warmer than ambient when you're running a bright light 6" away from a significant mass of plant and soil (and that's only at 300w of 600w)

I only have one plant now (5 gal), going to be running ~6 so I expect even more heat. Good news is winter's almost arrived, and my house drops down from high 70's to even into the 50's at night, might switch my flower to nighttime to save temps

  14. Your best bet is to search and find the most successful soil mixtures. You can get organic compost soil, add some perlite, worm castings and other things. Just make sure to not over water, soil holds water rather well, and until a strong root system is built, the babies wont need much water, if anything, get a spray bottle if you feel the soil is dry, and just mist it a good few times over. Over watering in soil is a quick way to kill the babies :)

  15. I had the same problem. I lost at least 3 weeks of grow time. It was my first. I figured out I should have used those seedling starters. They come in packs of about 70 something. The soil I mixed was to fertile for a seedling and burnt them. Let the seedling grow about 5 inches then transplant to your pot.

  16. Use lots of perlite the mj plants love it.

  17. got a ton of perlite in my mix, like 30%+

Soaked them 5 days ago, just now going to feed them again tonite, and they're outdoors all day! They like it dry!

  18. when I need to help seedlings along, I like to take 2 cups of high quality compost (go figure how to tell that), a bowl and a whisk, and another 2 cups water. I beat the compost like eggs for 2-10 minutes (yeah I know I'm a dork) and then strain the compost so I just have that brown bubbly water left over. Use this on your plants- works a charm. a gallon of compost tea contains as many microbes as 1 yard of compost (27 cubic feet)- compost tea microbes multiply 16,000 times every 24 hours.
