Do you feel like ASAP Rocky has gotten better or worse with time? I feel as if once he made it big he began to sell out and quit his druggy flow and start rapping about trash and garbage. He lost that Houston vibe he had... I liked goldie but it seems right after goldie went big he lost it and ever since ive heard that garbage he had with Skrillex I really feel like he lost it.
its part of blowin up...you work with other big names not just your inner circle anymore & you realize Goldie & Wild for the night are on the same album, right?
People need to understand that artists that make it really big don't usually make it really big because theyre incredible artists, they make it big because they are making a small amount of people FUCKLOADS of money. I've never listened and i don't need to, i watch the video, i see him with all the faces, thats all you need to get money, it would be nice to see some artists be successful by sticking true to the underground and working with real artists in the real struggle rather then just identifying with the mainstream. Thats my take, if you wanna continue making good music you have to seek places of discomfort, mainstream is a place that is way way way too comfortable to produce good music and as we all see, it takes its toll on every artist who enters it, instead of searching for a good hook your searching for a good name to include on your album its just wack. I wish the guy well but yeah, i hope he continues to be successful and do HIS thing.
ME & MY NIGGA SKRILLEX YOU KNOW WE FINNA KILL IT Goldie was recorded in late 2011 immediately after LongLiveA$AP.. there's definitely a big gap between those works and his new shit that was all recorded in late 2012.
I'm not understanding this; how could he be making people money is he doesn't have any fans supporting him; or isn't making any sales or drawing anybody to concerts? These artists obviously need to have some appeal that makes them marketable beforehand, something that has already made a lot of people think they are an "incredible artist"; its not like they just grab random guys off the street and make them chart topping rappers haha
I think that's what he was saying, but yea you're totally right. They inevitably sell out after having garnered a good fan base.
thats not what i was saying, i meant if theyre making sales a lot more than the record label has to think theyre an incredible musician
Right... after they've got a solid fan base and can make money for the label. Exactly. Unless you're saying the artists don't sell out, but they do.
yea basically, but i was thinkin more like its entirely irrelevant whether they "sold out" or not, if the fans are there the fans are there, its not our place to throw around those terms. for all we know the artist who "sold out" has dreamed of making bubblegum radio pop all their lives and has just never shown it lol
