HEllo all! just wanted to show off a few new pieces i just finished. its a part of a series im doing of bugs on wood. i use acrylic inks, pen, and wood finish. the wood is 120 year old worm wood fence panels. i cut and sand these beautiful organic aged pieces till i get the wood nice and fresh. i like to use the curves of the grain as my guide. thank you for taking the time to check it out.More to come soon stay tuned..peace. Dude, that is awesome. I've just recently been getting into working with wood, mostly venting my anger through hours of widdling. But I want to get into painting and etching and inking and all that. Any tips?
I want to get into painting and etching and inking and all that. Any tips?[/QUOTE] Thank you, wood is a really cool medium. I started out just drawing allot of things i see. all the time, the more practice you get the better you will be. i Like painting because you can Do everything in layers. if you are really into inking and etching you might want to see if there is a school around your area that teaches just that. i live in Socal and we have tons of community colleges that teach a class.thanks for stoping by, Mack
I live in Socal too, where are you getting your wood from, and what kind should I be using? I use birchwood for carving because it's soft. I live next to Pasadena City College, and I know they have some pretty sweet art classes. But it's a little difficult when you dont have a job.
I like recycled wood usually. The worm wood im using now is old and torn down fencing. wormwood is illegal here in California, due to the process and how its made. but in my opinion if you want to find good wood you have to go out and find it. i usually look for flat pieces and sand and polish them up with a power sander. i like to use the grain of the wood as my guide for placement and bio-mech designs i like. if i had more time i would totally teach a class. here is a few more i did on some recycled wood i found and the some more with the wormwood. oh and i think passadina city college is really cheap to just take a few units of art, i think its about 25 a unit.?? anyways if you ever want to share your art or have any questions shoot me a PM.Mack
Awesome. I love the last one that you just posted, that is awesome. I'm going to definitely try my hand at this type of work, and I'll send you the pics when I'm done. Thanks for the ideas
