A New Grow Room

  1. Hi Blackfly! You will likely want to start a thread on your project. I am not a "Go-To" person on how to put this stuff together, but you have a lot of people in this thread that are. Herbal Remedies, Itsmysubaru, Don Piano are a few, and in no particular order, are all awesome DIYs, and they have sure helped a lot of people out, myself included.

I have done a ton of research, to ensure I do this right, but I am a Noob, with a Capital N. :)

You sure found the right forum, for help on DIY builds, though!!!!:hello:

  2. Thanks for the CO2 Tank info Don...that really makes me feel a lot better!

Some Pics of today so far:

They are even going to seal each outlet inside, before the actual plugs go in. Then, we are getting the little plastic plug thingies that keep kids from sticking stuff into the plugs. We'll put those in before we Elastomericize the rooms.

We should have all of the sheeting and insulation up by Thursday and all electrical wrapped up by then, as well. Hopefully, then the primer coats, and first Elasto can get started.

Oh God...please let all of that be done by Thursday!! :)

  3. Looking incredible man!

I have the tanks in my grow room, I don't think it really hurts anything to keep them there. As long as you don't let it get too hot.

About your question with the drip feedings, I don't know, I've never used a drip system, much less one that wouldn't get recycled back in, but like Don said, that'll be a lot of water.

What type of water do you plan on using anyways? My household RO system only has a 7 gal / 24 hour capacity, and if your going to need to refill everyday you might not have a big enough tank late into flowering. I'm only 2 weeks into flowering 15 plants and they are already starting to drink a couple gallons a day.

Also had a quick question for you... how much juice you going to be running to that room? I'm sure you already thought of this, but did you consider how much juice all the other stuff will be using? I'm running a little over 4kWh flowering right now and only a little over half of that is my lights.

  4. Wow... You, HerbalRemedies, and Don Piano are completely ridiculous. I wish I had the DIY and handyman skills you guys have. This is coming together VERY nicely, I've been watching along for most of the setup. I hope one day I can get myself a setup more like one of yours and less like my tiny little grow box! Good luck man, I'll be tuned in.

    Aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. :smoking:

Thanks very much! The Bastage Brothers are kicking butt. I guess that makes them the BKBBB. ;)

I am so glad to hear both you and Don say that about the tanks. So glad. Space will be tight anyway, but putting the tanks in the room will help, I think.

I haven't bought my system yet, and I know it won't take too long to get it set up. The point about the volume of water is a good one. Unfortunately, without the "X" (how much would I go through daily, per plant) I can't get to the "How Big Should My Reservoir Be" answer.

The R/O system I was looking at has a 100 GPD capacity. That should work, since I'll only have the 7 plants, even if they get really thirsty.

If everything is on at once, it won't blow a fuse, or a circuit, Electro-Bro tells me. He put 7 circuits in, and a mix of the 15a and 20a. I only added up all of the amps, and didn't look at wattage too much myself. I did show EB all of the schematics, and spec sheets on all the major stuff, like the AC units, the fans, the lights, and went down the complete list together. When we got done, he told me how it was going to be, and I boutht a bunch of wire, and stuff. :)

I really did add up every amp I could for all items, and if they all went on at once, there would be a 59.96 amp draw. Then we broke out what would pull, on what circuit, and ensured that we were under that magic 80% load thing he kept talking about. He said that one big consideration was that the heat items like lights really draw, whereas the fans can add up, even at 1/2 to 1.25 amps, but aren't nearly the show stoppers that heaters and lights are.

There will be times of overlap in my rooms, when both sets of lights will be on at the same time, but it will usually be one room, or the other running.

If both rooms are going, there is 2400 watts of lights. The AC units would probably be the next big draw, but time will tell how much those will be running. I will help support our power company handsomely, I'm sure. I am going with the most efficient lights, etc. that I can find, but I will definitely use some kWh.

  6. Wall is UP in room #1!!

    Room 1 floor Caulking.jpg

I am told all insulation & sheeting up by Thursday.

One bro is even willing to pop by, and help with the primer and stuff over the weekend so we can get the rooms both coated with the Elasto ASAP.

Even that won't be fast enough for my tastes. I will use the time wisely, however, to do my homework on which hydro system to use, for sure.

Have I mentioned that I am really excited. Yet?

  7. Well it wouldn't hurt to say it once more! Again I am very impressed, and honestly do have an excitement feeling from reading this thread! Very professional and you are definately taking this seriously! I share your joy.

  8. "They are even going to seal each outlet inside, before the actual plugs go in. Then, we are getting the little plastic plug thingies that keep kids from sticking stuff into the plugs. We'll put those in before we Elastomericize the rooms."

Sorry got lazy with the quote tabs. That is an awesome idea. I just used tape. But I hear that you can lose co2 though the outlets and those plugs should be installed anyway.

One question. are you going to have those lights with the switches operable during flowering? If so, tape them things to off. Hate to have a light on that you wont see during light period, and since you don't wnat to interupt the dark period, you never see that it is on then either. Could be potentially detrimental to flowring plants. Use them when you need them, but put lighted switches in or something. It scares me, but maybe I am still reading it wrong. Let me know if what I said makes sense.

    Loooking gooood. I want a medical card.:smoking:

  9. Don, I want bro's like he has, lol!! Those are some awesome siblings.

  10. What you said makes absolute and total sense.

How's about I just remove the 60 watt bulbs, in flower time, and put them back in when I go in to clean, or whatever, and think "WTF? Lights are out?" :)

It is an excellent point, indeed, and one I will not forget. Thank You!

I'll probably just tape the switch, anyway...hehehe

Thanks man...Eventually, hopefully, they will just legalize this stuff.

I'd wish a card for all, but sometimes the price can be a little steep.

But hopefully, in our lifetimes, our government will be smart about it, and just let us be mellow.

  11. Thank you very kindly.

The Grow Journal should be a lot of fun too.

Zpyro, and a few others have really inspired me with those trichome shots...lol...

    Talk about Cannabis Porn!! Hehehehehehe.

    Anyway...thanks again!!

  12. Don and Herbal (and my bros for Building and Wiring shit) are the smart ones here. I just buy the stuff, and do the homework.

But I will pass along the kudos to my BKBBB...they do like to hear how awesome their work is!

I hope your little transplant perks up, Smoke!! I have been watching that progress, along with everything else going on...good luck with your little baby!!

  13. Speaking of the BKBBB, they are now being called 1/2BKBBB...one of those %&$#@!ers overslept.

What am I going to do...disown em? Hehehehehehe. At least one showed up on time, and Number 2 just got here.

Anyway, this should be a very fun and exciting day for Construction.

    Gawd DAM am I excited!!!!

    :hello::hello::hello::hello::hello:

    :smoking:

Pics will be posted throughout the day...I only get one chance to capture this shit as it comes together.

As someone I respect would say:

    "Yee-Fucking-HAW!!!!!!!!!

  14. looking good. the question for your setup is how many do you want to grow and how tall? how many lights will you have?

  15. Hi mjboy,

    Thanks for the compliment!!

There will be 7 plants in a room at a time. The dimensions are in this thread
...they can get 4-5 feet tall, and I will be growing Indica to start with ("Blueberry" and "Kush" Strains)

There are two 600W HPS lamps in each room. Each room is 4.5 X 8 (about 36 Square Feet Total), with a Hydro Grow Tray that will be 3' X 6', or 18 sq. feet.

All this info can be found further back, but the thread is getting a little thick now. :)

  16. so you have 2 3x6 trays and only 1 light per tray? for 7 plants that cool but you should of maxed out your space and wattage. youll want more later i know it lol

but take pics when you can of the glower rooms and if you have any questions just let me know

  17. mjboy...if you start at the front page of the thread, and just click through the pages, and find the pictures, I have diagrams, and mucho details.

Here is what i had said in my reply just above this post:

2 rooms...2 lights per room...4 lights total - about 90,000 lumens per bulb (two bulbs in each room), or about 180,000 lumens for 18 square feet, for one room. That equates to 10,0000 lumens per square foot. I have seen where even 3000 per square is considered "Good".

Multiply that times two, and you have what I am using, in my rooms.

If you go back to the front, and start there, all of your questions will hopefully be answered.

  18. oh ok them with that you have a nice setup. ill be watching

  19. OK...they are working on getting everything sealed up tight on room 2. They will have all of the insulation & sheeting up today. Tomorrow, Electro-Bro will be back early afternoon to finish all outlets, and the first coat of Primer and Elasto will be on by tomorrow, I am told. I should have the last coat of Elasto on by the start of next week. We will then be outfitting the rooms, with all gear...lights, fans, tanks, sensors...

By the end of weekend, I will have the lights up for the seedlings, and will germ my seeds as soon as the roller is being cleaned from the second coat of Elasto. :)

I will be doing the heat mat and humidifier cover on the seedling tray, under a 4 light T-5 high output flourescents.

Here is the first installment of today's progress:

View Towards Mama - All Sheeting Up!.jpg

    More on the way...
