Got busy this season. I'm running a few projects, main one is an organic setup so I'm gonna gather everything under the same roof to make it more simple. I don't really take notes so this journal will be also helpful to reminds me when I did what! Here are 5 plants about 5 weeks from flip, 6 weeks of vedge in a 4x4. This tent is lighten by a 325 HLG board and a Kingbrite 240w Chinese knock off. Got one White Widow x Critical Kush (left back corner) and 4 Critical Kush S1. I'm stunt by how the S1 are almost identical to each others, with slight structure difference and one being more frosty. They all have gorgeous blue hues here and there on a few buds. All grown organically in my own soil blend, peat based with home made ewc, with rice hulls husk and perlite. Very proud of this tent as this is my soil and my seeds. Slight excess N but again I am only using low Nitrogen blend like Gaia green Power bloom.
The vegetation area is a 4x2 cabinet built in a closet. Currently got a large auto that plays tricks on me refusing to bud properly, along with some seedlings. Seedlings are to replace the Critical Kush run that should be chopped in about a month. They are Bubba x Josh D Og and one RS11 from Katsu. They are the same batch that had troubles with probable light burn. auto and healthy seedlings damaged seedlings (this one just died in the past hours) (this one could survive. note that 2nd set of leaves is also deformed showing 4 fingers)
** I Love this site but posting pics is a real PITA ** last seedling with issue this one have no vertical growth after cotyledon and won't grow an other set of leafs. I think I'll have to cull it.
It smells good in the neighbourhood! I can smell my plants a few houses away depending of the wind directions! I'm running 2 tents connected to each other on opposite light cycle so they don't compete for C02. I'm exhausting outside without filters at 300cfm. ************************************************* Last project is an other 4x4 tent. It's a coco DTW setup under 600w hps. They are 11 days from flip. As much as I hate SCROGs I think I'll have to set a net to control height as It'll might be tight in a few weeks. Here we have 2 Wifi Og from Blimburn (left) and 2 Og Kush from Phoenix (right). I've never grown anything from Blimburn so far and it's my 4th time with Phoenix seeds. Papa Puff recommended Phoenix to me a few years ago, I have already run their Og kush too and it was legit.
Nice journal @Laucass83. I liked the WIFI OG. It was one of the better strains I've run in the last year.
Thanks for the kind words Tim! I'm excited about that WIFI too. I topped early both plants to have 6 mains. Never tried mainlining yet but it would fit perfectly for how I'm trying to finish them. They have been moved under the hps about 2 weeks ago and have stretched a lil more than expected especially internode space. More stretch to come since pre flowers are just showing. I have nothing against a wide large canopy under a trellis that will yield lots of 2-3 gram buds but it's just not my style! I like plant to be able to express a little more their structures and «personality», I want to grow beautiful flowers like chunky colas that are mouthwatering. I also think that plants can take advantage of both the width I can offer them and some vertical space as well for quality buds!
I'm having a hard time to chop the auto. Also made a mistake it's current light schedule is 17-7 not 19-5. I took her out for a massive trim to realise how dark her foliage was under natural light. Could flower be that retarded because of improper feedings? She gets Canna coco A and B at equal parts like it should be, but the A contains the N, Ca, Mg, Iron and K. I'm gonna try to substitute the A part with a touch of CalMag and K sulphate. I also put her in the shower for the night so plant can get 12 hours of darkness.
I haven't run hydro in over 7 years. But, I find that sativa leaning auto-flowers are generally not heavy feeders and nitrogen can suppress flower development. Normally, we drop our nitrogen feeds after the transition period. Maybe someone like @MickFoster or @trojangrower that runs hydro set-ups can better help you.
Was finally patient enough to post a pic of those super green leafs. Had to do 2 screen shots than resize. My camera is just a 10 megapixel from 2008 nothing 4K type here!! Should not be happening but this is an other topic =)
no need for that. Here's something that may help: LIFECYCLE OF AN AUTO as far as too much/too little... Check the EC of the fertigation solution prior to feeding, and check the EC of the runoff solution. What is the difference (delta). If the value is higher in the runoff, dilute the solution next feed. If the value is slightly lower, leave it alone. If delta is much lower, add more fertilizer next feeding. One rule of thumb is if the delta value is x, multiply it by three times and adjust the EC of the solution by this value. Example: I have a 1500 uS solution that I feed. The runoff is 1700 uS. The delta value is 1700 - 1500 = 200 uS. Multiply by 3 = 600. So the next solution I should feed is 1500 - 600 = 900 uS.
Thanks for checking in and for the detailed tips Trojan! I am curious to ask you what nutrient are you using if you don't mind ... Canna is the only one (to my knowledge) that is made of 2 parts that are meant to be gave equally all the way from seedling to harvest. Total NPK of A+B is 5-4-3. (Something I never mind to calculate but now feels like this would be the improper ratio for flowering) Would you still go by the ppm** with half-half A+B or *maybe* reduce the part A (4-0-1)? **Could a ppm drop be caused by a lack of P and K while the medium already have to much nitrate?
I've used COCOTEK parts A & B. I dropped the Grow parts A & B during flower and only used the Bloom parts A & B during flower. I also never found it necessary to go over 600 ppm with my feeds using the lighting I was running. But, your feed rate will depend on your lighting and the plants requirements.
Thanks Tim. Cocotek bloom A and B would make it to 3-5-6, would be the optimal ratio from personal experience and readings. Maybe canna coco nutrient line is not the best for autoflower strains. I got the 5L size of each for a good price at local store (2 weeks after sadly they where closed after 30 years). It's a learning curve right! First time auto, I'll be moving out at mid of May before June 1st. Still have time to start an other one. I'll do my best with this one.
Plant Products MJ Fertilizer Line in the Coco Grow Trial I get that stuff pretty cheap. I use three part Holland's Secret for some hydro, but not dtw. HS is almost identical to three-part Flora. There are one part mixes, like Maxibloom 5-14-15; many use that from start to finish and the nitrogen levels are low.
That is one fine detailed journal !! You are raising up the bar again Sir! Thanks for sharing and helping. I'll probably get the Maxibloom given my current situation. It could be here Tuesday. 1k for 35$ tax and shipping included, not bad. How many days would you usually count from seed to harvest?
Every plant is different. Some as short as 3 months. Some of my photos I let veg longer to fill up a tent, so 4-5 months sometimes. Hey thanks for checking that older work out. I still use Plant Products. I've been testing their 'hydroponic' powder on my tomatoes. been a week ...
In the tent with photos under qbs, the White widow is getting ready to be chopped. About 2 weeks left. I cut a little sample yesterday from under the canopy to look at trichs, half milky half clear. In the other tent, I swapped the reflector of the Hps for an open wing type for better coverage and to gain some height. The auto is back on getting beefier! I expected her to stall or at least be pissed for a couple days but she took the haircut and multiple flushes like nothing happened!! Thumbs up for sexual stability and vigour this plant is a beast. Only one damaged seedling is still standing. Got 5 in total so perfect to fill the tent.
Guess my closet genetics have some limitations! Sample is seeded and I mean heavily. Talking about a dozen seeds in less than a gram. I can't see any male flowers but it's there somewhere. Not gonna disturb every branch now than it's too late anyway. Seeds are almost mature and deep into the buds so it happened a couple weeks ago already. Sad, plants looking gorgeous.
It's the white widow that hermied. Saw some fresh pollen on a fan this morning so after turning off ventilation I removed the plant carefully. Good news, first top tier looks OK, at least smokable, buds had developed nanners from under the buds in the lower half. Nearby plants have some seeds but not awful as this one. Lots went straight in freezer for water hash. This is a plant that was just next to the white widow. No signs of seeds and some ridiculous frost on it don't even need a camera flash to make it spark I can hope it finish nicely!
