I was two "and a half" minutes late to an 820 class this morning, when arriving I found the door locked and when I went to open it he looked at me and continued sitting at his desk. This guy could be the biggest douche I've ever met, his class feels more like being in basic training and he's one of those professors that laughs ignorantly are people when they don't know something, whether it's a new topic or not, if I'm paying YOU to teach ME, why should you be able to lock me out? Kind of pissed off about it, he may have let me in eventually but it's a waste because after the fact, you still receive no credit for attending class so I just left. Let's hear about those asshole college professors that we've all had at least once while in college.
I had a prof who on the second day called me out on shit in front of the class. I walked in front of her (like 4-5 feet) and she bugged. She said to never pass in front of her again, blah blah. Power trip assholes.
I've got excellent grades in all my classes except English; the professor is bat shit crazy. I am about a week overdue on turning an essay in because her grading and treatment (of me, specifically) in class have traumatized me so much, I can't turn out drivel anymore. I used to love writing. I completely agree with your argument that we are paying them so they should teach us.... not try to teach us a lesson based on their neurosis.
I've had a few dickhead professors but I've also met some very interesting professors. The cool ones are usually the ones that are down to earth.
His class, his rules. I've had classes where a single absense/late arrival got you kicked out of the class. It sucked, but I made sure to get to class on time.
College professors are a crazy lot. I had one guy who would berate people in front of the class for sending him e-mails with improperly formatted subject lines. You just have to learn to deal with their B.S. and realize there's not much you can do about it. Don't take it personal and follow their rules or drop the class and try it with a new professor (not always an option, I know).
It's a waste of $$ but i'm dropping the class. One 'insane female with power' can screw up my entire semester. i'm done.
I would call them out on it. If they're gonna give me shit I'm gonna shit on them back. Worst come to worst drop the class.
I never let students into my classes late. If they signed up for the 8am course, they should be there on time. I hold my students to the same regard I am held at. They are professionals-in-training, and they should act as such. By the way, my rule is if they are late, then go home. If I am late, they go home. Only been late once in my 10+ years of teaching, and the students were gone by the time I got there.
Some teachers are just like that man, my philosophy teacher freaks out if anyone so much as whispers in his class. He looks as if he's about to smack you in the face, his face gets all twisted and red. its honestly terrifying. yet i'm 5-10 minutes late to his class everyday and he doesn't mind one bit. each teachers has their own thing that bugs the shit outta em man, just gotta find that one thing and never do it if you hope to pass
