A good time to tell my parents?

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by ADTR 05, Sep 27, 2011.

  1. Ive been smoking for about a year now, and have never been caught. I think my parents maaaaaayyybbbee have known i was high before but they never said anything. I get mostly A's and a couple B's in school. The thing is, my mom treats me kind of childish. Its hard to explain but she can pull some stupid shit on me at times. and I don't know exactly how she will react. Just today my Dad comes home drunk as fuck like he does at least once a week, and my mom is yelling at him and fighting because my dad is fucking stupid when he is drunk. In a few weeks my best friend is moving up from Texas and we will be smoking ALL THE TIME. so i figure now is the best time to tell her because i can compare weed to recent encounters with fucking alcohol (i rarely drink).

My plan is to sit her down, say "Mom i smoke weed." and proceed to explain it to her, watch The Union with her, and break out the scientific studies if I have to.

The only thing that can go wrong is if she is completely brainwashed by society and still thinks that weed is a horrible drug.

So should i carry out this plan, or no? tell me your thoughts

  2. Well what kind of person is your mom? Right wing.... What?

  3. if she is the kind of person that can accept sudden change then go for it

  4. I was in your exact shoes, I sat her down and told her that I enjoy mary jane over alcohol any day of the week.
I threw a couple facts in the speech as well, but kept it mainly focused on myself and how I haven't screwed up badly at all and I smoked all through high school and college.

Dont "make" her watch any documentaries, just keep it on the topic that it doesn't affect you or the goals you have in life.

  5. Shes not overly protective, she just does some things that make it seem like she treats me kind of like a child, like asks a ton of questions about what i did. and i wont make her watch it unless its needed, io just think the union is a perfect tool for this situation.

  6. If she's paying for your college or whatever your doing in Texas I wouldn't tell her. She may freak out and stop paying for your shit.

  7. I agree that its good for her to see if its needed. Also try not to seem like a total stoner. My mom is the same way dude, if you choose to have this conversation with them make sure you focus on the good things that you have done while smoking weed. Such as good grades, holding a job, no possession or paraphernalia on your record.

I think you have got this under control.

  8. Her reply will be.. Well shit I had no idea you smoked weed. Not even when you came home every night reeking like you bathed in bongwater...

  9. Dude you have just described my family exactly, except for the coming home drunk. My dad just drinks like 2, 8packs. He also tokes. With my experience, My dad caught me once and took me to a drug councilor:confused:, after the meeting on the drive home, I thought it was a good time to call him out on it. He got super upset and told me he didnt toke. Ive found his bong, vape, and spliffs. As for my mom, she was very uneducated about weed. We had a very very very long discussion about it. It turns out all the facts she had about weed were just things shes heard other parents say but she has never researched it. I told her to go look some of the thing I told her about weed and she hasn't come to dispute them. A few days later my mom gave me an ultimatum, she said: "I wont drink my once a week wine, if you dont smoke weed", and I was like well if I say no, it looks bad on me and if I say yes then I have to smoke in guilt, when in reality there is nothing wrong. Its been about 2 month since this all happened and as long as I dont smoke at home, my parents dont care, and my mom still drinks wine.

I geuss you just have to feel you parents out, anyways Im moving out soon so it doesn't really mater. Lol:smoke:

  10. my family is going through a very stressful stage at the moment as we're moving to another state and shit is just alittle hectic but I'm planning on telling them soon. I'll need a good way to though because my parents are very VERY anti weed.

  11. keep the suggestions comin/ share personal experiences with the same problem
