A few questions about grow tents

  1. Im thinking of getting a grow tent when the plants flower because I think they might outgrow the space they are in now but i have a few questions about them.

how well do grow tents contain the smell of flowering plants?
is there much of a risk of the grow tent catching on fire?
do most grow tents come with a way to hang up a large light or am i going to have to devise a system to hang the light?

  2. bump...................

  3. they come with a bit to hang ur lights on and holes for ventilation but not sure bout the smell as im not tht far in yet :)

  4. I have a grow tent in my room for my veg section. It has various holes for intake/exhaust fans and it's mylar coated to reflect light back to the plants. From veg plants alone my "veg hut" doesn't retain the smell whatsoever. I can smell them from one room away with no plants in flower. All of the huts I have seen come standard with bars across the tops which go great with my "pro grip" pulley system. My 4x4 hut supports 2 sunblaze 8 bulb t5 HO fluorescents just fine.

  5. Hmm thats a bummer they don't contian the smell very well I think im going to have to revise my smell proofing plan

  6. well, you need a filter for the smell, if you want the tent to retain the smell!

  7. how well do grow tents contain the smell with a carbon filter in place?

  8. this is the best method

  9. Containing the smell is not a problem with the tents. I also have a 5'x5'x6.5' Mylar tent. As long as you are willing to setup some type of filter and exhaust system, you will not have to worry about it. If you don't setup an exhaust, the smell will just linger there. You don't have to worry about the tent catching on fire. Believe it or not, it stays around 75-80 degrees. As long as you take care of your bulbs, you don't need to worry about them blowing as much. And as someone stated before, they come with 3 bars so that you can hang your light, fan, filter etc... More than enough ways to do what you would like. Highly recommend them, I have 2 of them in my bedroom! Hope this helps some

  10. Set up a basic 6 inch "scrubber" with a carbon filter within the room or on the exhaust vent(s).

    or

Scrubber fan with carbon filter inside room with filtered exhaust fan, virtually eradicating any skunky odors resulting from the plants. I can show you a basic schematic to make your own filter, but purchasing one takes far less work and is more reliable.

  11. I have a grow tent in my room that i built out of pcv tubing, polyester, and a mylar blanket. cost me about $40 to build it. (this excludes my intake fan, lighting, exhaust...etc.). I built one because i like to have my own customizable set up.

Anyways, I'm looking into building a carbon filter/air scrubber and was wondering if i place the filter in the tent and had my inline fan suck the air out of the tent via filter, would i still need to route my exhaust duct outside? or would the carbon filter make it safe to just have the fan exhaust into my room?

  12. It will be safe to leave in your room, just make sure you have some type of ventilation (open window or door). You shouldn't be able to smell anything except in the immediate area of the tent :)

  13. Smell should only be a factor if proper ventilation isn't in place. I have heard of people with multiple tents in a space and almost no smell whatsoever. But they had a well thought out and efficient filter system. Which aren't the cheapest but that's the sacrifice.
