A cop saw me with a j, did I handle this right?

    Last week my brother was driving the car and i was riding shotgun. I was smoking a mostly-done joint. It was in between my lips as a tiny roach when suddenly i see a cop right on the side of the road. and right as I see him, the roach fell out of my lips by accident. As we passed him, he pulled out and started closely following behind us, but didn't pull us over.
    I was freaked out so i pulled into a side-street and he still followed us.
    So i randomly pull into a random driveway and he backs into a driveway opposite the one im in and parks and sits and watches our car.

    This whole time me and my bro were pretending we never noticed him, we just sat in our still car in that driveway pretending to be on a cell phone call for about 2 min then we slowly pull out and drive away

    and FINALLY he doesnt follow us this time.
    1. Did I play this one cool?
    2. Why didn't he pull me over and arrest me?

    You definitely lucked out. He could have easily pulled you over, smelt weed, and use that as probable cause to search your car. If you had nothing on you, you would have been fine because it is not illegal to be high. There's not much else you could have done. If it was me driving, I probably would have gone to a wal-mart or something. But you got away, so job well done.

    ^Rochester nh? The only time I went there ( moved here from the south) I was with these thugs and I was scared shitless man. Never saw them again after that.

    Eat the joint if a cop pulls you over, don't think just swallow and drink something.. Only carry what you are gonna smoke.

    I don't think they could pull you over for just seeing a joint, because for the cop to assume it is a joint and not just a cigarette, they would have to either be able to visibly see the weed or smell it, other than that you are safe and have nothing to worry about.

    On the weekends I roll a joint for every day I have classes, and all I do is throw a tiny bit of tobacco, just enough to make it smell like tobacco, and then have the rest just regular weed, and I will either smoke it when I drive through the city, or I smoke it right on school grounds, been doing it pretty much every day for 3 years and haven't gotten confronted or pulled over once.

    If you ever get paranoid, gum and Febreze are your best friends ;)

    he wouldnt have PC (probable cause) to pull you over. he cant be sure you were smoking a joint. he cant risk his job over it without closer investigation. but since you caught his attention and looked sketchy he followed you to see if you would speed,impede traffic (which most stoners driving do), run light or sign, etc. if you gave him No traffic PC then he cant pull you over to investigate further.

    He didnt pull u over cause he noticed ur weed was done so he had nothing to smoke when he told u to hold on a second q n drives off . U can tell the difference because the paper on a joint and the upaper on a cigarette burn completely different especially at the roach part

    pulling into a random driveway is very stupid. If I was a cop I would say, ok these people are worried. Just park on the side of a street when you are pretending to be on your phone. Maybe the cop had a description of a car similar to yours and was running the plates. I doubt the cop noticed it was a joint from as far away as another lane.
