Because jury nullification isn't yet the norm. Most of the time, people who wind up stuck on jury duty were too stupid to figure out how to get dismissed from it. They're likely to be the same fucks who still believe cannabis is deadly and vote against legalization. Not to say it won't start to happen more often, but I don't think it's going to do so very quickly. I hope you're right though.
unless you get a big case youre not gunna sit in jail for 8 months just waitin for your jury trial date to get off of a misdemeanor possession charge..
This is mayhem... two states have legalized weed. in a contient where its pretty much the first thing feds want gone. SO MANY FUCKING QUESTIONS THAT NEED ANSWERING (and some answers probably be made cause it may be a wake up call for alot of the 'anti legalization freaks'). I cant wait till it all unfolds and see the progress and read the emails and see who and where is making progress to full legalization.
i just hope it turns out good and people dont act retarded because of it.. like goin out to restaurants and burnin a blunt and shit like that
Far I as I know it doesn't change a thing for pre-employment drug testing unfortunately. That's a federal law, the drug free workplace act. I hope that something will budge or at least the employers will overlook THC, but I think that's being to optimistic. I know they can still fire you for marijuana use, so legalization didn't change that part, which is a pretty damn big part if you ask me. My parents would toke up now and then if they didn't have to worry about risking their jobs for it.
Hopefully they begin having difficulty with the jury pools and not being able to seat a jury which wishes to enforce pot prohibition to begin with. There were a couple stories of late where I think where with the jury pool the prosecutors were unsuccessful in being able to seat a complicit jury.
My sister in law is a nurse that does in home care for the elderly, and her company urine tests her for nicotine (and illegal drugs). Nicotine is totally legal, but the company is within their legal rights to check for compliance with their no smoking policy. So if a company is happy testing all of it's employees, they probably still will. And chain stores will probably still test in WA and CO if their parent company has a nationwide policy. Drug testing will stick around as long as the company has employees willing to waive their privacy rights.
