OK 2x white rhinos, 9th week into flowering. I have a 30x magnifer with a light. still confused about trichs. 1. Do i look on the fan leaves for the trichs or the buds itself? 2. If their amber, what do i do? do i water them for an extra 2 weeks to flush (stop all nutrients). And then harvest for a week?? 3. What if most are amber should i flush out asap and cut immediately???
look at the buds, magnify and focus until you see the round balls (trics). Rule of thumb is not to harvest before 50% of the trics are amber, the rest should be cloudy. Its okay if more than 50% are amber, the pot will be more stoney. Clear trics can cause some people a bit of anxiety, or keep them awake when they dont want to be. My personal preference is as amber as possible. Length of flush is a personal preference. I use the 1 gallon per rule, meaning flush a 5 gallon pot with 5 gallons of water....check the ppm's of the run off when it first starts coming out, and compare it to the ppm after 5 gallons have flushed through it. It should drop to something close to your water's ppm, if not flush a bit more until it does. Then let the girls dry out throughly and do it again. Check the ppm when it first starts draining again...How close is it to the first check of the first flush? It should have dropped significantly. Finish the flush as before, until the ppm is close to your waters ppm if not equal. Usually Im cutting them down at the 3rd flush, but it all depends..gl
Pick a small leaf by a bud. Make sure it has a lot of trichs - pic 1 @ 20x - true size is 3mm long. Pic 2 trichs on edge pretty clear, & 3 trichs in middle @ 400x. Pic 3 has a few amber and some starting to get cloudy 40 days flower. Still got a ways to go.
This scope is awesome. Don't have to remember what the trichs looked like last time cause now I've got a pic. Pretty cool lookin at other shit too. on the question of trichomes (clear/cloudy/amber) i have heard many different views. I do know that clear is less potent, cloudy is potent and will give you an "up" high while amber will give a "down" stoned feel, while inbetween is supposed to sorta have the best of both worlds. My question to you growers is this: If sativa is supposed to give you the more "up" high, should you pick it at mostly cloudy? What happens if the sativa gets mostly amber? will it turn into a more couch-lock stone? If thats the case, then if indica is supposed to give you the "down" stoned feel, what happens if you pick it when its just cloudy? Basically, since I've learned that both the type of plant (sativa vs indica) as WELL as the trichome color (cloudy vs amber) affect the high/stone, which is more dominant? Do they need to match up, as in Sativa-cloudy, Indica-amber, and does changing that up make a difference to the high (if so, in what way) if you go Sativa-amber and Indica-cloudy? Much appreciated!
Do people go mainly by the trichomes on the leaves or the buds? I assume it's both but I wanted a clear answer... Because I've got 3 plants growing, Big Bang, Bubba Kush & Strawberry Cough. The BB & SC have amber all over the leaves, but the trichomes on the actual buds are still mainly white. I prefer more of a narcotic high than a speedy one. So should I wait until more trichomes are amber on the actual buds?? BB & SC have been flowering for 9 weeks now, the Bubba 7. From all the reading I've been doing, and for the type of high desired, it seems better to let them go too long than not long enough... I also moved them from outdoor to indoor as the weather was really overcast and rainy, so I think they might be taking longer than they would have if they had been getting more sun. Also I have them under flourescents, 60,000 lumens 8 bulb t-5 light. I know it's not as good as HPS but can't afford that right now. Any info much appreciated!! I want a stoney buzz but am prone to depression so I don't want too much amber if it's going to make me lethargic. I am also prone to anxiety however, which is why I def. don't want to harvest too early. thanks for any advice!
It sounds like your very close to what your looking for! Post some more trich pics!! I bet your good. I think your thinking your going to see that sea of amber. It's not slap you in the face amber.
Ok guys so here are the pics of my Strawberry Cough: I made these thumbnails because there are so many... but you can click on them to make them bigger... The whole plant: All of the larger leaves have dropped off and the smaller ones are turning yellow/brown which makes me think it's ready, but I wanted everyone to see the trichomes before I chop her.
And here are the pics of my Big Bang. It's also 9 weeks into flowering and for an indica I'd think it would be done, however there are still white hairs at the top and a lot of the trichomes are still white. Thanks for looking.. can't wait to hear your opinions!
Got any pictures? You should have seen male flowers much earlier than 9 weeks into flowering. At 9 weeks you should have very agressive bud growth and depending on the strain, they actually should be close to finishing. 9 weeks from seed or 9 weeks from the start of flowering (12/12 light cycle)?
The first plant? I'm new to this but I didn't see any balls on any of them. They've been harvested & curing for a while now, gets me high for sure... I did find a small white seed in one strain. Does that mean it's a hermie? It sucks if it is, I didn't think it was. How does a smoking a hermie affect the high/quality?
I posted a bunch of pictures on the 1st page of the trichomes cuz that's what I was asking about. I harvested those plants very soon after those pics were taken. They were definitely ready. 9 weeks from start of flowering. I started them inside on 12/12. Then I had moved them outside when they were big enough so it was around 8 hours day light depending on the weather. Then I had to move them inside due to caterpillars so I kept it no longer than 8 hours of light/ 16 dark because I wanted to mimic the same cycle it was on. Because I heard that giving it more light than it's used to can make it a hermie. ??
If those were mine i'de be trimming right now, but im the impatient type. they look great btw edit-didnt look at the date or 2nd page soooooooooooooooorry
