90W UFO Heat?

  1. Hey all!

Just curious about the 90W Ufo... I can get one off ebay brand new for about $150... Im wondering what kind of heat these things give off...

$150 for a Ufo that gives off no/Very little heat means i can just set up the lights in a light proof area/cab and dont have to worry about ventillation.. Which is cheaper/alot easier in the long run then me buying Cfls + Vents + Carbon Filter and installing..

    Anyone own one?

  2. Considering what those things normally go for, that is a pretty good price.

That being said... I have a hard time believing the claims about this light. The manufacturer claims that it is comparable to a 400W HID lamp. They claim to produce less lumen, but what the lamp does produce is more usable than an HID lamp. BS. I have yet to see one of these grow 1 plant to harvest, let alone the 4-6 you can grow under a 400W HID, without supplemental light.

I hope that LEDs can eventually perform up to their claims. I just don't think we are there yet.

    Good luck.

  3. Im not looking for something as powerful as a 400watt Hps anyhow.

I want to be able to grow a couple of ounces every few months with minimal effort.

If i can grow 2 plants and harvest at least a couple of ounces each grow without having to stress about overheating/smell with this light/enclosed cab method then... I will be content =]

  4. If you are sold on the capabilities, then go for it.

What is this about not having to worry about smell? You keep mentioning this. You still need to introduce fresh air to your grow. Therefore you still have to worry about venting.

    Good luck.

  5. You always need to worry about venting your grow room. Stale air in a grow room equates to decreased vigor in your plants. Independent of the heat issue, you should still have some means of venting your grow area.

I cannot speak on the efficacy of the LED grow lights on the market, but the technology for killer LED grow lights is already here. I run 10W Vision X LED lighting on my truck (4 six inch round Solstice, 22" Xmitter bar, 34" Reflex bar, and 8 Solstice Solo pods), and they destroy all other competitors. 35 and 55 watt HID lights included.

As far as the manufacturer's claim that it can produce more light for the plant while reducing lumen output isn't necessarily BS. Lumens are not a good unit for measuring lights for plants. You need to know how may PAR watts each light produces before you automatically call BS.

I'm not sold on the UFO lights yet, but I'm sure kick ass LED lights to grow killer buds is not far off.

  6. Hm yes good point, but i do currently have a grow cab... And ive figured out how to get rid of any potential smells... My cabs temps are steady around 85F, im adding another exhaust PC fan...

    ANYWHOS!
I was having difficulty designing a DIY carbon filter because the small fans cant move the warm air out and through the carbon filter quick enough to keep the temps down... Until now :D

As i sat here stoned, watching scrubs and surfing the net it hit me.. And yeh basically its a small thin square screen with a layer of Activated Carbon inside that will be attached to the outside of my cab over the exhaust hole... Warm air should pass through quite easily..

  7. I agree Lumen is a misleading measurement for light that is able to be absorbed by plants. It is however the one that the manufacturer chose to use. I was just paraphrasing. So, in this instance I do believe it to be BS.

    Peace.
