78 Watt?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Sirajsam, Sep 27, 2011.

  1. So I have 3 26W 6500K CFL's now I don't have any more sockets or any Y-splitters yet So, I'm going to have to stay with 78W for now. The plant is on day 7... Could I go the whole grow with 78 Watts? I know it'd be more beneficial to have the full 100 Watts but I'd like to know if I could get by decently with 78.

  2. Yeah, you could. I've grown with much less and much more lol
Your yield will suffer with the cfl's, as well as your density. Look into 75w hps security lights. Much better than cfls and the heat is easier to manage, for me at least.
Cfl's= very good for veg but to get the most out of your plants (Yield, smell, density, etc) use HID lighting.

  3. Hmm I see. This grow is my first, and it's to test things like LST, building my grow box to work the best etc.

  4. Lst'ing is the way to go. If you're working with a small space look into scrogging. That combined with some Lst and your yield will be optimal.

  5. Yeah I want to try scrogging but I'm frankly to lazy :D. Maybe my next grow I'm still slowly applying everything I know :)

  6. Just try for a minimum of 8,000 lumens per plant. Anything less, and you're bound to be disappointed. I agree with the other poster, CFLs are excellent for veg, but subpar for flowering. HID or proper LEDs are the way to go.

  7. You could look into getting some of those bigger CFL's, thats what I use but only for veg. They only use one plug each and already have a ballast, I just buy a hood for them and add a plug.

Not used them for flowering with though, I'd rather use a HPS. I wouldn't waste money on LED's just yet :smoke:

  8. I have 2 200w, 2 65w and 1 105w CFLs in my GR, and I've gotta say, I wish I'd gone with more smaller ones than fewer larger ones. The heat from the larger ballasts is far greater than I'd expected, and it's a pain in the ass to cool each individual fixture. With the smaller bulbs, you can either position them more closely in and around the plant and avoid reflectors and cooling, or you can make a small lamp with y-splitters and a power strip with 6 26w CFLs and an air-cooled hood, to make for a more powerful, focused source of light.

I mean, either way works, but from my experience I regret getting the larger bulbs and, hell, wish I'd just gone with HID in the first place. Whatever you do, I wish you the best.

  9. Well new to growing inside and have license to do it. I have only a small space built. 5foot by 12 foot by 6ft high (pardon the pun) Question is what size light do ineed and how many plants will i get in that space?

  10. Do the larger CFLs need a different socket than the regular?

  11. It all depends - my 200w bulbs both do, but my 65s and 105 fit a normal socket; however, I've bought 65w CFLs mistakenly without realizing that they were the bigger socket. Just be careful when purchasing your bulbs... if it says it's a 5KV socket, or an E39 or E40 Mogul-base, then it's the larger-type socket. You can buy the sockets online for between $25-45, but you can also find flood lights at a lot of hardware stores that use that sized socket. If you take them apart, they will work fine. Good luck.

  12. Check the socket, it'll tell you the maximum output.

  13. I'm pretty sure I ordered the standard medium sockets. I have 3 sockets atm. But I ran into a problem, I was thinking that my plugs would all plug into my multiplug thing (I cannot recall the name) and the multiplug will simply plug into my timer, but I have run into a problem. My timer is a 2 prong and my multiplug is a 3 prong. So right now I have a timer but I can't use it. If I do I can only plug 2 things in there. I'm thinking about just getting a 100+ CFL...
