  1. i really dont understand this beyond its a computer memory replacement. does this mean anything beyond that?

    or am i just confused from the beginning?

    No, you are correct. But when it comes to computing, density is a huge factor. In datacenters around the world there are giant racks full of hard disks. These take up a lot of space (which costs $). They also use a lot of electricity (which costs $). And on top of it all, then generate a ton of heat (which costs $ to get rid of).

    If this new technology pans out, the entire picture below could be replaced with something the size of your weed grinder (each of these racks is taller than a person):
