6mil poly vapor barrier?

  1. Can I used 6mil poly vapor barrier for my greenhouse covering? The same used in construction?

I am planning on building a greenhouse using 2x4's for the walls and then bending PVC pipes for a curved roof(rain and snow run off) and then putting an inner and outer laying of the poly on the walls. Would this give me a nice insulation from the cold on the outside? I am SE Oregon, Temps mid Oct thru late Feb can get down to 40F during the nights and early mornings.

I have also read that I should put some rocks or water bottles inside to absorb heat during the day and keep it warmer at night.

I plan on having vents with covers that I can close at night to keep the heat in, and opennings on both sides so during the day the heat can escape and fresh air can blow through.

Should I put boards covered in Mylar at angles at the bottom to reflect the sun light around the plants more?

    Thanks!

First grow BTW..Currently outdoors in the ground and I want to keep it growing longer

  2. This would work but has no UV inhibitors in it like greenhouse film, so it would only last one season. Why not use 6 mil plastic sheeting instead? It would be a lot cheaper than the house wrap. Double wall poly film will give you extra insulation value from the dead air space between the layers. Double poly galzing is used in many greenhouse applications. The poly film sold by greenhouse suppliers is best for this type of use and can be bought for multi-year use and has a UV inhibitor to make the film last longer.

  3. I have one I made from a portable garage frame and the 6mil vapor barrier. Just finished the second season and still looks good for more. I live in Ontario so we get some snow too.

It semed cheap to me. $70 for all the plastic I could need.
