Hi all, 2 questions. 1. Has anyone ever used the boost mode on a lumii 600w digital ballast and noticed a difference? 2. Is it safe to be running a 600w bulb at 660w?
It will wear out the bulb faster. If you are the type of grower who changes bulbs every cycle then it wont matter.
I don't use boost / super lumen if my bulb is new, as Grow Vault said, it will burn the bulb out quicker that way. But its a great feature to use on bulbs that already have over 2,000 hours of usage. If you just use that feature that way, a 'good bulb' that has around 2,000 hours of usage will have lost 8% to 12% of its original lumen output, so when you use boost / super lumen on a bulb that already has been used for 2,000 hours, you will allow that older bulb to output close to it original lumen output for another 1200 to 1600 hours.
so all it does really is burn the bulb quicker bc i got a solis-tek 600w with a boost of 30 so it said 630w but the bulb was 600 how does that work lol
It over drives (over powers) the bulb. It literally sends more electricity to the bulb which will make it a little brighter. You get that extra at the cost of shortening the life of the bulb, paying for more electricity, dealing with more heat. With 1 bulb that might not be that big a deal. But if you run multi pal bulbs in flower that really adds up. Also 1000w ballasts usually will add about 100w (typically it is 10% more then the wattage, +100w for a 1000w and +60w for a 600w)
I never really boost my hps, dont really like the idea. Sent from my SM-G950F using Grasscity Forum mobile app
