Hey again GC, After a terrible turn of events happened last grow multiple moves had to be made on the plants and they became very stressed. I blame this for the less than desired quantity, but trhe LEDs sure made it some quality smoke. But now I am back. Now I have been ruinning my tent since around Jan 6 when I first planted the seeds, but I just earlier today installed the new Ice Box by Hydro Innovations. Let me start out with what I first had and how it all evolved. First thing I set up was just the tent with ducting inside of it and a fan attached to the reflector to vent it out of the tent and then having my window (pics 1-2) open did the job pretty well when temps were very low, but I soon realized that wouldnt last long. Then I rigged up some extra ducting to vent the entire thing out the window and an extra muffin fan screwed to a piece of very thin wood and drilled it into the side of my window (pics 3-4). I tried this on both the intake [1] and exhaust [2] of my window but the temps still were around 82-84 with the tent open halfway at a distance around 20 inches away from the bottom of the glass reflector. Now all of the ducting has been removed (damn I wish I would have just tried this system first) and the reflector is hooked up to the fan on one side pushing air through the reflector and through the Ice Box unit on the other side of the reflector (last pics). This unit was set up using 1/2" tubing from Home Depot, a 1/4 hp water chiller bought from a person on craigslist, a 13 gallon reservoir bought from home depot which is actually a wastebasket, and a 633 hp submersible pump bought from my local hydrostore. The temps have been brought down to around 84 at a distance 16 inches away from the bottom of the reflector WITH THE TENT CLOSED!!! Hlooray I am now effectively cooling my 600W light. Now onto the growing side of things... The seedlings are entirely from my second grow using my HPS where my girls turned slightly hermy at the end and produced their own seeds, some plants more than others. The strains grown at that time were Bubblegum and Sweet Dreams from marijuanaseeds.nl or something. Both strains eneded up hermieing and both produced seeds. I kept the majority of the seeds from the good looking plants. And everyone I have given these seeds to has enjoyed the end product. I have 15 of these going right now and the 16th is of a different breed. I have been running very low and smoking my extremely potent stashes and I came across a seed in some very old , but very good weed. Funny thing is this thing took off once put in dirt and is growing faster than them all. So it bhas been almost 10 days now and I was wondering if you guys think these seedlings are doing alright. I have been giving them 2mL/L of root nutrient from biobizz and 1mL/L of humboldt nutrients mayan mycrozyme. However last watering was only water. I have been having problems with the humidity in the tent though. I could not get it to move from 20% for the longest time. After adding the reservoir and the heat exchanger it has been steadily increasing which is a great thing. So my plan is to trade off some of the seedlings I have going now for some other strains with 2 other friends, but only end up with a total of 9 plants to flower under this light. Nutrients are the entire Bio-bizz line, trying to follow the schedule to a T. As well as the above mentioned mayan microzyme. Also I got to feed them once with Vermi-T that I got free at the hydro store for pickin up a bunch of nutrients. I handed it off to my buddy though, since it goes bad in 24hours unless you put it in the fridge it lasts up to 10 days (all i had was seedlings I was bummed, but oh well). I am very curious to hear all of your ideas and feedback and if you have any comments I would love to hear em. Thats it for now, flo
Update. Think I forgot to mention I am using a Dark Room DR120 by secret jardin The plants seem to be growing very quickly. I am concerned though since a lot of them seem mutated or overfertilized or something that is kind of puzzling looking. Most are working on their third set of true leaves. I also finally took out one of the seedlings that just never took proper root or something. It had always been yellow in color, but now the entire thing is a bright yellow color. I am thinking of transplanting to the 3 gal containers soon too. But I have been feeding every water with 2ml/L root juice and 1ml/L mayan microzyme Then once a week I will give them water to where I have to fill the container around 3 times (somewhat of a flush). But the last feeding (earlier today was just water since I am concerne about overfeeding) I also gave them biogrow nutrients at 1/3 recommended dosage on the bio-bizz schedule plan. I have been loving my temps and cant wait till these babies get huge. Enjoy the pics, and please reply somebody! flo
Alright, so I just smoked up and got to thinking about some questions I can ask this fine community. First of all I was wondering about night time temperatures because I think mine are dipping fairly low in the low 60's. I was wondering if this is too low and I should actively do something to keep it warmer during the nighttime? It would be a simple matter of closing a window or something so its not a question of if I can just if I need to... Second question has to do with light distance. So I know the closer the better all the time but I was just curious if mine seem close to the light, far from the light, or about average distance from the light for how old they are, and how powerful of a light that is. I am pretty sure I checked out distances and for 600W HPS the optimum range is from like 8 inches to 30 inches or something. I hae them right around 20 inches right now and I guess it seems to work... I took a few shots of some new buds I picked up the other day. I was told there was no name on the bags for this one, but I think it looks like green crack cause its so damn orange and nuggetty. diggitty diggitty its quagmire
Got A SELF-TOPPED PLANT MOTHER FUCKERS AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH!!!!!!!! damn thats pretty sweet though, I didnt know they could top themselves like that. Anyways I just wanted to give some more pics today and try and see if anyone out there will give me some kind of reply. Some of the pics of are a couple of the mutant plants Im still unsure about. Some other pics are outside of the grow room where my chiller and ballast currently sit. I want to put my chiller in my window so it doesnt have to work so much but that is kind of a total overhaul. Still hoping to trade clones with friends, but things sound very promising now. I hope we can all, one day, learn to just let go of our bullshit and just flow. (Only the sound of the blowing wind passing around your head)
Buddy of mine came over today and helped me put my Chiller in the window so that it is exhausting the hot air outside. I had to put up a shelf for it to rest on for this though and it took a little effort, but I think it will be worth it. Is this sketchy to do or no? I would think it inst since I could claim its for my aquarium or something. Anyways I also let that same buddy leave ith 5 of my plants so I am now down to around 10. I plan on picking out maybe one more of mine and transplanting like the 4 I have so far but Im not sure. Temps are around 80 where the thermometer is hanging which to me seems really cold for how close to the light it is, but what the shit do I know? I think the chiller will work more efficiently this way. Thats it for now, flo
Well since I seeem to have this thread all to myself I may as well smoke a fatty and see if some peeps will get a whif and come stoppin by.... I could be doing something but I dont care....................................Its 4:20 somewhere
Alright then, now that I have smoked some good buds I feel a lot better and can get on with an update. It was blue trainwreck by the way Now for the updates. I have transplanted a total of 5 of my plants into nice big 3 gallon containers full of 60% FFOF potting soil and 40% coco coir. All plants have been getting the same concentration of food in their watering as well. I have been doing 2ml/L of biogrow , 1ml/L of mayan microzyme , 2ml/L of root juice by biobizz. I just purchased some Bioheaven from my local interrior gardens store and the ingredients read: soy protein hydrolysate. Now I have heard very good things about beneficial fungus and fish hydrolysate, but could soy hydrolysate possibly give all the same benefits or is fish just much better? I was kind of curious about that? I am very concerned about infestations right now becaause I checked out a buddies grow and some of his nuggets have webs on them and are covered in a coat of crawling insects. So I got some azamax for my plants for just in case. I was wondering if I should just start using it now for preventative measures or to wait until I see their presence????????????????????????????????????????? I have noticed these tiny translucent white like 8 legged criters ith antenaes crawling around everyhere on my pots and in the soil, but I dont think they are bad because the plants seem to be thriving. But I could be wrong......................... These fuckers move fast as shit too its insane for how small they are. Very easy to kill also but I just dont know what they are. Anyone out there can help me out I will +rep em!!!!!!! and thank them for sure. Hey wait a minute that first pic isnt my garden, but I wish it was
Time for some snapshots of my personal stash right now I have laying around. First pic is blue trainwreck Second pic is green crack Third pic is Romulan Fourth pic is bubba kush Enjoy Flo
Update time The grow is going along nicely now. Most of my plants I transplanted have already gotten bigger than I was planning on having them since I was never able to trade clones with other people. I was ready, but neither of the other buddies were... Well thats how things go I guess, but I ended up trading with both of them yesterday and have transplanted what I want into my 9 total 3 gallon containers and getting them ready for the switch over. I was thinking of waiting a little while until the ones just transplanted start to look bigger and more established. So the strains I got were 2-blue cheese clone and 2-super silver haze clone from friend #1 and 1-northern berry (friend #2's breed) , 1-burmese kush , and 1-great white shark from friend #2. I gave friend #2 one each of what friend #1 gave me and I am going to give friend #1 the burmese kush and whatever else friend #2 wants to give me. So total in my 3-gallon pots I have: 1 personal stas seed found prior to planting 4 bubblegum , sweet dreams, or bubblegum x sweet dreams plants that the seeds came from a grow of seeds ordered online that hermied a little at the end 1 northern berry that is a cross beteen dj shorts blueberry and a nothern lights strain that was bred by a friend 1 great white shark from greenhouse seed company 1 super silver have from greenhouse seed company 1 blue cheese from an unknown source ( then here is also a burmese kush in a peat pot sitting in a 3-gallon container with another newly transplanted plant) WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK????? CAN I YIELD OVER A POUND?????
looking good flow! you should be able to pull some serious weight off of those babies. i'd say a pound should be well within your range, if you go conservative and get say 3 oz/plant wet, you should be pretty close to ending up with 16 oz dry. how long are you planning on vegging those babies for? shhhhh!!!! don't tell anybody but i also mix ffof and coco together(canna coco) and have been very happy with the blend, and my plants absolutely love it too, it's great at holding water yet doesn't get all soggy and sloppy. helps me cut down on the amount of perlite i use too which is nice because i've noticed that the dust from my big 'ol bag of perlite can cause some bad respiratory irritation and inflammation. not a great thing if you have to store all your grow supplies inside... things are looking good flow, you're gonna have a lot of kill on your hands in a couple of months. if you need a little help finding something to do with it, hit me up!!! peace out brother
hey man, nice start to your setup. I also have an ice box system but its not hooked up right now, i took it down for winter and to perfect the setup for next summer. I have a big 1/2 hp commercial chiller i got used and an icebox. one problem with yoiur setup (and sorry if you addresed this i didnt get to read everything yet) is your fan. you need a powerful can fan or equiv to properly cool with icebox. they recommend to have alot of air passing through it. i also have the grozone temp v2 which i recommend for use with an icebox, it speeds up and slows down the fan based on the temp of the room you set. I also have a dark room dr-120. I cant extract my fans to a window so thats why i use the icebox system plus i enrich co2 with a chhc-1 controller so i need the closed system,. let me know how that chiller works, they claim you need an industrial chiller and those aquarium chillers arent powerful enough but i dont know if i beleive that claim. how hot is it where you live now? is that garbage can your ice box res? i kept mine out of the grow room because it takes up so much damn room. but i insulated it. but i might move it back in using a hydro res that could go under where the plants will be growing possbily if i can make it fit. i love the dark room 120. how did you light proof your intakes? do you have an extractor fan? how are you controlling humidity? I use an extractor fan which kicks on when it needs to, the controller takes care of that. i use that when it hits 86F or 60% RH. it dumps my co2 but the controller wont enrich co2 when its running. but i would love to add a closed loop ac system to make it true CEA. I also want to add a HEPA filter to the intakes.
WOAH DUDE i just read more, those sound like spider mites! are they eating the plants? they can turn a crop to dust in days. check the bottoms of leaves with a mag glass ASAP. we need to get someone else in here with more experience with pests to confirm this though. I keep things clean but still have gnats. but transluscent, fast, 8 legged, tiny sound exactly like spider mites.
OK..your buddys grow..with the webs,,,mites..Not the white bug moving on the soil...i think.Mites live on the bottom of leaves..they make little dots.It is wise to do a saftey spary..Heres where we all differ...I wont spary a plant with buds on it with anything other than alcohol and water. No buds...nuke it.I dont care,,,neem oil,dr doom...pest strips. They must be destroyed. You can kill the adults on the 1st spray...but then you have to kill the hatchers.Neem will smother the eggs.Good luck with that..They suck...i know.
yes things are looking beautiful, and strains sound yummy! Looking forward to updates, and will be following! I have a grow starting as well! But keep up the work!
AHHHHHHH thank you man, its good to finally see someone jump on board here. Well the truth is I wanted to switch over to flower at the begining og Febuary, but shit happened and it wasnt my fault. Also the reason why there is such a size differential in the plants... Fucking out of my control though... Sorry I dont mean to get pissed off but I am just saying I shouldprobably let the newly transplanted little ones adjust to my climate/environment for awhile and see how much they can grow. The bigger ones drastically slowed down growth after moving them onto the floor. I was wondering though, what exactly is the reason for putting hydroton in the bottom of your pots? Does it help keep roots out of soggy water??? cause it also reduces how much total space is available for root growth. Anyways I was just curious... flo
No man but I have had multiple friends that grow come over and everyone knows like me tha they arent spider mites. They dont crawl onto the leaves. They seem to live in the soil and only come out when I water and stay out till it dries somewhat, but only after like 2-3 days. Im just blown for what it could be. I am thinking they are probly doing damage to the roots though... Maybe I should just azamax all the plants.?
yeah, pretty much. anything like hydroton, or gravel, or perlite on the bottom of a container will increase O2 in the root zone should allow your medium to drain better, provided it's given enough separation. it won't reduce root growth either as the roots are easily able to grow down in and around the clay pellets. Fresh O2 in the rootzone will allow most plants to grow with their roots fully submerged. Think deep water culture, those plants can have the main mass of their roots under water but they can live because there is plenty of fresh O2 available to the roots.
yeah i re-read what you wrote and realized they arent spider mites. spider mites dont have antenna plus i missed that you said they stayed neAr the soil. they could be aphids but those arent transluscent. fungus gnats hang near the soil and are fast but arent transluscent and fly. translucent usually means spider mites, so these are confusing. also, hydroton or rocks at the bottom help with drainage but the roots do grow into them so its not really wasted space, i like that it allows the roots at the bottom to get extra air and as you said, dont sit in the water at the bottom.
