You mean a better light or a timer?
I recommend Horticultural Lighting Group (HLG) for premium light,
but also include Kingbrite (from Alibaba), Mars, and Spyderfarmer. So many nowadays.

As far as a timer, a basic timer cost about $10-100 on amazon.

Its not 600 watt light, a 600 watt LED grow light DRAWS 600watt at or from the wall they don't produce wattage they use wattage or consume electricity

 

If you bought a “600w led that produces 260w” then it’s a 260 watt LED not a 600w lol

If any new grower is buying grow lights especially someone who doesn't know How some LED grow light company's advertisements are so damn misleading There are a shit ton of people have no idea what they are getting. Price and advertise wattage is normally a giant red flag.
Cost per watt should be a buck per watt or more unless buying Kingbrite lights

 

for 150 bucks you can get a dual bulb HPS/MH 600 watts with a timer your plants will thank you

No thanks. Too much extra heat generated, which means running an A/C unit, which means more power consumption. Modern LED fixtures are far superior in terms of efficiency and low heat production.

You need to keep your grow area temperatures very high (78-82). And HID (High Intensity Discharge) is just a different type of light. You can literally feel the energy of it. It is much more like sunlight. The intensity of the light will give you a much higher leaf temperature than your ambient temperature which is why plants still grow great at low temps under HID lighting. Its kinda hard to explain until youve actually used both but having a miniature sun (HID) vs some light emitting diodes comes with its advantages.

 

More uneven ppfd coverage with HPS, plus there was a study from 2017 that showed a pound per fixture of 2.53 to 2.01 LED vs HPS respectively. We're talking 6 years ago, the LED's today are better, so one could expect to see a similar study conducted today to show a bigger yield gap.

 

Coverage is dependent on setup. Yeah if you have a single 1000w hps your coverage will be shit. But im running 4 315cmh lights in a 5x5 tent. Excellent coverage. Or for the commercial growers who are still buying and installing 1000w DE HPS at 20-50 fixtures per room, again, coverage is not an issue. If we are strictly talking watt for watt input to output, yes LED is superior. But i would rather spend a couple dollars more on electric to be able to grow at 65-75 degrees and do so with a light that is more like the sun. It takes the heat of the lights just to get my grow area up to 65-75 degrees. If I was running led, i would be at more like 55-65. Just have to keep in mind everyone is growing under different conditions.

 

I agree. If one needs the extra heat, HPS would be the way to go.

 

On top of that, its not just the extra heat, its being able to grow good weed when your temps max at 65-70 some days even with that extra heat. The energy it would take to get my grow space up to 80 and keep humidity down.... i dont even want to think about it.
