600 watt or 1000 watt HPS?

  1. bassically I need to know if a 1000 watt will even work in the space that I have, which is 3.5 by 4.9 and about 7ft tall or should i just stick with a 600? cause they are both the same price and I like the deal id be gettting with the 1000 but i dont want to fuck with my plants

  2. From what I've read the 600w will give the same Lumen's as a 1000w will.
Your space is fine for either.:smoking:

  3. Well if theyre both the same whats the difference?

  4. The over cost, like monthly elec bill, from what ive read. A 600 does the same light but cheaper. Plus since its a cooler light then to a 1000, so you can have it closer to the plants, which they will like even more

  5. Ok so you think I should go for the 600 watt?

  6. Ok so you think I should buy the 600 watt?

  7. Get the 600w

  8. ok now this dude just offered me a 400 watt light system with a MH/HPS ballast for about 150 bucks. is it worth it to buy this for MH vegging purposes? I kinda want to but I dont know if I need to waste my budget money on this when there might be a better investment... I dunno any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Peace:wave:

  9. ahhh I see so im not really getting a good deal on that?

  10. Surely that can not be right. A 1000 watt light gives the same number of lumen's as a 600 watt??

Do you have any links to articles about this?

  11. Not true, it's only better when running multiple 600w hoods as opposed to one 1k.

600w just run more effiecently .

1000's typically yeild about 25-30% more than 600's

And op it really doenst sound like you have the space for a 1k without asking for problems, unless you have above par cooling, exhaust, and air flow.

heres the breakdown taken from another forum:

The way it works is, a 1000w HPS gives off 140,000 luminants when new, a 600w HPS gives off 95,000 luminants when new.

    How that breaks down is:

A 1000w HPS gives you 14 luminants per watt of power.

A 600w HPS gives you just under 16 luminants per watt of power.

So instead of running a single 1000w HPS and get 140,000 luminants which radiates from one point in the room. You run two 600w HPS and you get 190,000 luminants radiating from two points in the room, hence much more efficiency. You get more luminants, a better spread of light, for just a couple of dollars more.

    1 1000w = 2 600w(140,000 luminants vs 190,000 luminants)
    2 1000w = 3 or 4 of 600w(280,000 luminants vs 380,000 luminants)
    3 1000w = 5 600w(420,000 luminants v s 475,000 luminants)
    4 1000w = 6 or 7 600w(560,000 luminants vs 665000 luminants)
    5 1000w = 8 or 9 600w(700,000 luminants vs 855,000 luminants)
    10 1000w = 16 or 17 600w bulbs(1,400,000 vs 1,615,000 luminants)
    20 1000w = 33 or 34 600w bulbs(2,800,000 vs 3,230,000 luminants)

  12. do the 600.
