    damn, i really hope the first person gets it right

    rules: no calculators

    solve for x:



    6/2(2+1)=x

    and 6/2=3

    -Multiplication
    -Division
    -Addiction
    -Subtraction

    And that is the order of operations... Gotta love high math requirements for college.

    So it would end up being x=9

    don't you have to do the multiplication first??? as in

    6/2(2+1) = x
    6/2(3) = x
    6/6 = x
    x=1

    am I missing something?

    um x equals 6/2(2+1)

    did you mean simplify x?

    Wrong.

    First you solve the equation inside, then the equation outside.Then you go to from left to right because multiplication and division have the same priority in the equation.

    Then you're left with 3x3.

    Which is 9.

    Thought you distribute the 2 first to the numbers in the parenthesis
